I'm heading to the LFS in the morning. I need some type of fish that is easy to come by and I don't already have that would go into a ten gallon heavily planted tank.

That's not much to go by. What fish do you have, what fish are already in the tank, what are you after, a centre piece fish or a school, what is your pH?

Probably a School of fish. I have wayyy to many to name :) . I wasn't looking for extremely specific just some ideas. My Ph is slightly confusing as of late since the tap is changing at the moment but I keep both soft and harder water fish successfully. Just throw out a fish you like and I'll know if I can keep it or have it :)

Guppies, betta, gourami, choridoras, raphaels, platys, mollys, shrimps, mostly tropical fish.

Actually my choice for that sort of enviroment would be bettas, either a lone male or a group of females.

Find some smaller dwarf/nano type fish. I had a bunch of dwarf rasbora and the 10g tank always seemed so empty.

hmm for that enviroment the redtail rasbora might be a nice adition.

I'm rather partial to rummynose tetras for a school, and a betta as a centre piece fish.

A school of Neon's is always pleasing in a planted tank.

i agree with the Neons and betta, I have a 60 UK Litre tank, heavy planted with that mix and a small plec in it and i love it, its my pretty tank, you can get different colour neons if you want a change, i have just blues, but after a trip to one of my LFS I found gold neons, lemon neon, diamond neons and green neons

I had a ten set up this way a while back. Now I moved the rummy nose to a bigger tank. Good idea though. I had already planned the betta for a centerpiece. I have nine bettas so I always have a betta waiting somewhere. LOL :)

Thanks for all the great ideas everyone!!!!! Definitely gave me a lot to think about.

Korith that would also be good. I love nano fish because you can have sooo many more of them. I wish petsmart didn't have ick right now becuase they are more for having the nano types than my LFS for whatever reason. I had thought of rasboras because I have never actually kept any though they have always caught my eye.

Ten gallon... I hear people talking about cherry shrimp (is that their name???) I think it would be cool to have shrimp, but then, you said planted... do they eat plants?

Anyway, just an uneducated guess... heh

I vote! Rummys and a really-bright coloured betta! Maybe a blue or marbled coloured one - that way the reds on the Rummys noses are complimented, as is the beauty of the plants ASWELL as the betta!

Rummys are gorgeous fish - they school tightly and glow a beautiful orangish-red colour on their noses when they are happy!

I have both Neons and Rummys, but IME, I have found Rummys to be far less hardy then Neons... Although thats just IME, most ahve said the opposite.. But thats how it worked for me...

EDIT: WHOOPS! I forgot, you wanted a fish you haven;'t had BEFORE.... I will post anotehr idea in a second...

i dont know if they are well suited for your tank, (but you will). i have recently fallen in absolute love with danios. the ones i have are zebra danios i think. i could watch them swim all day. they have long fins and and when they zip around it looks like scarves flying in the wind. they are a schooling fish so you would need a few of them. thats why im not sure if they are suited for your tank. let us know what you finally decide on.

If you have the $$, i would also look for some cool nano fish online, sounds like a great idea. They will make the betta stand out because of their smaller size

I'm getting a late start today because my daughter woke up running a fever this morning. :(

WT I'm going to get them today because it is buy one get one free at the LFS. I'm more broke than you thought! :hmm3grin2orange: I have to take down on the money I have been spending on the tanks. I just started my planted tanks so I have been spending loads. LOL That would be awesome though.

In that case, neons...or cardinals since they are half off :D

I second that, I have a 14 gal well planted w/ a few of them and some white clouds thrown in there. I think harlequins were bout $2 a pop and the white clouds were even less than that. They look really nice together. Good luck!

That's what I went with. I got six rasboras and six von rio tetras which I just love!! Also got six otos and increased my school of bleeding hearts for another tank. I tried not to get too much. Trying to save some money.

Thanks guys for all the ideas. I will try and get some pics later. I am so tired right now and the tank is all out of order at the moment. TIRED!!! Why dont tanks just take care of themselves? ???? LOL
