I don't know if it helped... or confused me more :c1:
I just got him yesterday, would he immediately start eating the algae or does he need to warm up to his new tank?

If he is a true sae,he will start eating as soon as he is acclimitized. At first feed him very little with fish food so he sees the algae as his best food source. Is that all algae I see in he pic?If so a bristlenose plec would be your best bet for a lawnmower,

Yeah, that's all algae... it's covering a rock too. I read that killfish are good algae eaters too, correct?

What's a reasonable price for a bristlenose plec? and can I find one at a big box petstore?
Also heard that shrimp will eat it, but I'm afraid my Clown Loach will eat them...

I have not pruchased one as of yet. They may be kind of rare at the box stores,I know Ive never seen one.Possibly you could get one ordered in for you? There price shouldnt be too high. There are some algae eating shrimp out there but they are more for small removal projects such as in a planted tank on and around leaves.
Amano shrimp will eat algae but you'd need plenty of them just to make a dent in the algae.

I think I'm going to try to find a bristlenose pleco, this seems to be the best option to control my algae problem.

I only bought one SAE because I read somewhere that one should be enough, is that correct? Is it better to have a couple?

sae do best in a group,3 is about right, that is if you have a 40 gal or more tank. They get kind of rambuctious when they get older and need lots of room.

Only have a 20g... maybe the SAE wasn't the best option. He may not be a true SAE though, he just perches on a rock.
A Bristle Nose is a better choice for a 20 gallon tank. SAE's like space to move around. And they love being in groups.
As for the Clowns you do know they will out grow the 20 gallon tank!!.

Not an issue now... the little bugger died last night. To make matters worse, the LFS only 48 hr return policy. That's the last time I go there.
Yeah, the Clown Loach was to get the snails that came with the live plants I used to have. They took care of the snails, but I think the snails may have helped control the algae. I'm wondering if I could trade him in at the LFS.

Not to many fish stores have a very good return policy!
Its best to research what you are after before getting it.
Bristle nose are great for algae.
What is do you think is causing your algae problem?

I think it was introduced to the tank on live plants, and got out of hand from there. I'd like to put live plants back in the tank, so I'm hesitant to use any chemicals in the tank. There are pics of the growth here:

As for what's causing the growth, I think its the location of the tank. The tank face is N/S and there is a window on the N side as well as the W side of the house. I really think most of the issue comes from the lighting in the kitchen that is on most of the day.
