hello and good day to you all i am new here and i ahve a ? i have bought a pair of jack dempsys and i was told they are a mating pair but the female does not have the colours as the male she is mostly black with a bit of peach on her chest is she really a jd or not ill try to post a pic on here asap thanks for your time

I believe they can come in different colors including the ones you are describing

I have moved your question into the cichlid forum rather than the introduction forum for better responses.
Females are not as bright and colorful as males.

They will also darken up some when stresses, a pic would be great.

It's a Dempsey for sure....looks female to me.

my jack dempsey changes colors.
Black when not eating,
goes almost pale when looking for food,
Turns very green and colorful when she has found food.
