Has a glass top too! What are you waiting for get in that car that drive on down there and get it!

Several weeks back I saw a free 55g a few minutes after it got posted, and got into the truck a minute later. Plugged the address into the gps and realized the place was over 2hr away :scry: I consoled myself with a trip to the local lfs instead.

lol Great consolation!

It's midnight - I'm sure they'd want to shoot me if I rolled up into their driveway asking for an aquarium right now. lol

Not sure I exactly have room for it though. Hmmmm - which furniture can I move around to make room for it? lol

worry about that later, what I would do is email them asap!

Email them with all your contact info and tell them to contact ya asap:p Hmm which furniture to move around, you could get rid of the bed, and sleep on the floor by the tanks? You can make another cinder block stand too!

Agreed! You will wait in line usually in order by emails received! Honestly, $20 bucks says you wouldnt be the first if its been 11 hours since it was posted, but you might get lucky, and people ahead of you may call out or not show

haha - Absolutely no idea! I don't even know where I could put it at this point to be honest.

What are the dimensions of a 55g? I need to do some measuring.

This may be a project that takes awhile to get up and running. Of course, I say that - but I always just jump in and do everything at once. But, I'll probably have to spread the purchases out so that I don't go broke at once. lol

Thanks, guys! :)

55 gallons is like swimming pool compared to my 20g! Maybe I could take my 20g down and have just the 55g.

or maybe I really want both. :11: lol

.....EDIT: If I did a cinder block stand again - would it be okay to have just the blocks on either end still? Or would I need support in the middle somehow too?

The tanks at one of the lfs just have cinder blocks at the ends of the tank. I would probably do one in the middle as well, but you can get away without one. Also the bigger the tank, the more important it is to make sure it's level!

that would be risky, if they aren't perfectly level it would create pressure points and possibly cause the tank to break

Although I'd still LOVE LOVE LOVE to get this tank, I'm not sure if it's feasible right now. I could possibly get it and put it away for awhile. But, I'm suddenly looking into buying a house (AAAH!!! :ssuprised: :ssuprised:), so I'm putting a hold on my spending until I figure out if it's going to work out or not. lol

However, as I was looking at the house tonight through its windows, I couldn't help but think, "Hey! I would have room for that 55g if I got this house!!" lol

go for it. Get it and then store it, then set it up in your house. The hood and top for a 55 cost more then 50 bucks alone. really if you think about it, you're *SAVING* money long term :) My biggest problem with a 55 gal is that the foot print is 4ft long. I prefer the 3 foot size of my 65. 55 has more square footage though.

Get the tank; even if you just end up selling it you won't be out anything.
Besides, a 55 will hold lots more fish than a 20...

But you need a tank for those zebra pleco's on the Philly craiglist (only $240 each, 1.25"/ too small to sex). Get yourself a few of them, and in 4-5 years when they're breeding size you can make a killing selling their offspring... thumbs2:

Not to mention that they need absolutely ideal water conditions for spawning, and if you lose one of your breeders they're quite difficult to replace. I remember when they were first imported (and nobody could figure out how to get them spawning) they sold for around $50 each.

I'm hopefully going to pick it up tomorrow after work. :11:

Do you think it would fit in my Ford Focus? Not sure if I could get it if not. lol

I just asked "by chance" if they would accept $40 instead of $50 - they said yes! :19: woo! It'll be sitting in the basement until I'm able to find a house - may be another year, but that's okay! I'll have it for the chance when I can actually use it.

I fit the stand for my 20 long in the back seat of my cousin's focus, the stand is about 31" inches wide, so your new tank is about 17" longer... according to the link below there are 49.5 inches of "hiproom" in the back seat. You might fit it, but the door panels might get your way. Congrats and good luck!!!

Maybe I'll be able to put the back seats down and lay it down in the trunk sticking through the back seat - make sense?

and thanks :)

That will work if the back seat is too narrow, but will you be able to get it out when you get it home? Might be a good idea to "borrow" a friend for the trip. A 55 isn't terribly heavy, but it's an awkward beast for one person to handle.

Hmm - I'll have to figure something out. I'm going right after work (since it's in FM, and that's where I work - about a 20 minute commute), so I can't really swing by and pick somebody up. lol

I'm sure they helped you load the tank into your car. Just get someone to help you carry it out when you get home. I had to move a 55g and it's not heavy, just awkward to move on your own.

So what kind of fish are going into this tank? planted? sand? gravel?

Kind of OT, but one time I borrowed my Uncle's Toyota Echo to get plywood for my b/f. I drove 40 miles and was gonna buy a 4x8 sheet and have it cut in half so it would fit in the back seat (either standing up or with the seats folded down. When I went to get it in the back, there was space INSIDE the car but the doors were to small to allow 4 feet of anything to get through them. I almost made it by like 2 inches. Thankfully the delivery truck was going my way and delivered 'em for free, lol.

little did I know I could have trimmed a couple inches off and been able to fit them, and still use them for what we wanted them for, but oh well, lol
