Do you set your canister alongside your tank or store it under the tank in the cabinet? Almost seems to me it would be easier to mess with setting alongside the tank rather than under it but I need to hear it from you guys.

It can go anywhere, most people put it under in the cabinet because thats one less mass to detract from the tank.

I know for priming the cannister it works better having it under the tank (it is a siphon type method). Having it down there isn't really much of a problem. They all have quick detach hoses so you just flip a switch and then move it to where ever you want to work on it.

I put it alongside the tank, but under is neater

Under is my preference. My new Rena actually states it needs to be a minimum distance below the tank to work properly. (Also a maximum as well).

But, it is so easy, being under is no big deal. I just flip the lever, the tube section come right out, and you carry the base over to the sink or what not to clean.

I have mine in the cabinet and its pretty easy. Theres a cut off valve so that way the water doesnt keep draining all over the place and then I just detatch the hoses and do wt I want with it.

I wondered if I had to leave the hoses long enough to drag the whole deal out without detaching. But since this sounds easy enough, will keep it under the tank for cosmetic reasons.

Thanks again everyone.

I keep mine under the sand so I can keep them hidden. Hobbs if your looking at the Eheims they have very nice quick disconect valves that make it very easy to take off the tubes and bring over to wherever you need to clean them.
