How many watts of light are you using and how big is your tank? What color is the algae?

Algae can be removed from the glass simply by using an algae scraper.

Green algae is normal, and is not at all harmful to fish. There probably isn't anything wrong with your tank, unless there is so much algae that it's choking the plants to death.

so there is a harmful type of algae?

what colour would that be?

an example of bad algae is blue-green algae, or cynobacteria, as it chokes the water of oxygen. despite its name, the algae itself can be red also.

Dave66 has written some great info up on different types of algae and what to do with them in the algae section of the forum, so definately give that a look when you have time as that will answer many of your algae questions

I may get one of those! I hate reaching my arm into the water and wiping off the glass... that thing looks like it's pretty convenient!

They are great. I actually prefer the scrappers that are more smooth but the floating aspect of these are awesome!!!! Yes mith you must have one!

Sorry for the derail. Back to the subject at hand
