from the looks of this fish this one looks like a bony fish.
It doesn't look like a shark to me.

Lots of fish at the pet stores are labled as sharks when they are really just fish. Rainbow shark, bala shark, ID Shark, red tailed shark. It could be something like that but there aren't any true freshwater sharks (that I know of). Someone will probably be along soon to prove me wrong lol.

Did a looky on FishBase.
Iridescent Shark aka: Pangasius hypophthalmus
Here's the page

It's not a real shark. It's actually a catfish. The anal and adipose fins gave it away. It's pretty common in most LFSs around here, though they don't often tell you they get as big as they do.

I bought a black shark yesterday. Do they count as sharks?

Is it three feet long with big sharp teeth?:hmm3grin2orange:
As mentionned in Chrona's post, aquarium fish are often mislabelled as "Sharks". The fact is most are minnows (Cyprinids) and some other are catfish (Siluriforms).
Do you have any pics? An easy way to tell them apart is that catfish have small adipose fins near their tails. They're usually not fully formed fins, but little stubs. If that's not there, it's a minnow.

Does it look like the pic on the site I posted, with the gills and all that? I dunno what u have, but maybe. They're VERY rare though, they were thought to be extinct the site said.

it says theyre extremely hardy and turn brown if they get sick. And they fight sickness so well just a 30% water change will cure em.
They also turn brown if stressed.
Mines comin out of the coconut and sifting through the sand.
Now, hes sittin in a huge hole in the sandstone

Characteristics
In general, all river sharks feature the following field characteristics:
* a short, broadly rounded snout ;
* small, widely spaced nostrils;
* small, dark eyes;
* broad, serrated upper teeth;
* very short labial furrows (lip grooves), restricted to the jaw corners;
* a broad dorsal fin with the mid-base closer to the base of the pectoral fins than those of the pelvic fins; and
* an anal fin with a deeply excised posterior margin.
off of wikipedia. WOW, those are exactly my guys characteristics

It's hard to tell from the image, but I'd guess that your black shark is actually a minnow.
If it's not a marine tank, it's very unlikely it's a real shark.

It's hard to tell anything from that pic, except that it has fins lol
