Not much, I just noticed a few brownish/green small blotches on the back of the tank, but I saw a Molly and Platy picking at it, so hopefully they'll get rid of it for me :)

Will my Weather Loach eat the algae too? Since I just added him today he's still very shy and hiding, but when he relaxes, will he eat algae, or do I have to start thinking about getting some kind of algae eater?

Yeah it says that up top, then lower down in the article it says that in aquariums the average is 5-8 inches. It's ok either way, we hope to get a larger aquarium than a 40 sometime anyway :) What can I say, I'm addicted to fish keeping :P lol

Well, I'm glad I'm not plagued with it..YET, but this is my first experience with it. HOpefully it'll get taken care of by some of the fish in there.

They're a type of catfish right? I'll def keep them in mind if my algae prob gets out of hand (again I knock on wood...knuckles hurting now).

OH CRAP.

I finally found a info section on google for the black shark i just bought, and its one of those cute when small, but gets 15 inches things!
I guess i can get a 55 for him if he outgrows my 20. Hes REALLY cute though. Ill post a pic tomorrow maybe.

He has cute bulgy eyes, and i guess theyre extremely hardy and turn brown if they want a water change.
And, they rarely get diseased and clean water will take care of their diseases.

To bad they get eaten in thailand. Theyre so cute

Siamese algae eaters are also great. They eat the annoying black brush stuff too

LOL, don't worry, he'll outgrow your 20 pretty fast. You might as well get the 55 now and start cycling ;)

I read that they're great at eating algae when babies, but when they get older they get lazy and aggressive.

Nope, that's the Chinese Algae Eater. The SAE has a black stripe running all the way from mouth to the end of the tail, and it has zig-zagged edges. It also doesn't have a stripe above the black line, unlike the false siamese algae eater, aka the plain Flying Fox (Siamese algae eater also = Siamese flying fox) Whoever named these things must have been drinking something funny.

My SAE is the most passive fish in the tank (although he zips around alot) My guppy has always bullied it around feeding time, and my cardinal tetras are starting to do the same lol

MY SAE is VERY calm and is not territorial nor hostile

Well I wonder where I read that then. Maybe I'm getting my fish mixed up lol

no, ive seen some very hostile SAE and CAE's

It depends on the particular fish, but in general, SAE are passive and CAE start passive and get territorial

I had a hard time getting algae to grow in my old tank, and when I finally got some, it was not the kind that my Mystery Snail liked. This time, I was not trying to get algae, my tank is not in direct sunlight, but after my nitrites spiked during my cycling process, I found smudges all over my tank divider and the walls on my tank. I blamed my two year old for the wall smudges until I noticed that I could not wash them off from the outside and they were starting to turn green. Now I have green and brown on my plastic plants, walls and divider, and very green water. It looks quite discusting. I am hoping that algae is a good sign wrt my water quality for my fish. Now that my Amonia and Nitrites are back down to low levels I am going to do a water change, change my filter, and think about how I want to deal with the algae. My fish seem to be picking off the growth from the walls.

well, mine doesn't seem to be spreading as of yet. If it is, it's very slow. Still don't notice any on plants or anything. I have a weather loach in there now (not that you'd know it because he's always hiding), and I hope he may take care of some of it.

Oh and I also heard some kind of trick for algae where you cover the aquarium and leave it in darkness for a few days to kill the algae, then u can vacuum up the dead algae that falls to the bottom of the tank. I haven't tried it, but I read it on a site.
