New tank

Hi! I have moved a classroom pet to my home and put him in a 14 gallon tank with Speedy, the snail. I am worried about how the tank will cycle with just him in it. Any suggestions to help this along without damaging the Betta or is the size of the tank to the solo fish okay with weekly water changes???

It should be fine, with weekly water changes. You should test the water, just in case though. Do you have access to any cycled media?

Cycled media would be good. Try to limit the current in the tank as well.

I have filters from other tanks, however, they are too big and I wasn't sure how to use them. They have charcoal in the middle. Do I cut the floss part off and place it in the other filter?

Yes, that's what I do...Don't take too much, or you'll have problems in the tank with the cycled filter...

Here's another crazed question. Should I add a couple of fish to the tank when I add the media so the bacteria has something to break down and cycle?
