It's a problem that parrots have if they are not kept in very clean water. It will clear up on it's own by doing a large water change and doing regular, scheduled water changes and keeping the tank clean.
It's called Black Spot Disease.

I have a pair of them. My female likes to slap the male around a bit, is very defensive when she spawns and goes after me if I reach in the tank. They're cichlids and that's the way cichlids are.
They should have plenty of room and be able to get away from each other, however. My pair is in a 55 gallon with some bottom feeders. They do not belong in small tanks.....like less than 40 gallon.
They can not bite with their mouths as they are and have to resort to pushing, is all. Doubtful they can hurt each other any.
