If there's anything you want to know or want a close up of anything just ask.

How big is the tank?

I can't see much from the pic but a lot of the fish you have in there are going to get much bigger. It looks like you have a ton of space to work with, but just make sure you plan for it!

Good luck and nice tank!

Nice!

Be careful not to do too much too soon. At 3 months it's not close to being 'mature'.

Nice tank. How many gallons?

Man... that tank it crowded. It may not look like it now as all the fish are juvenile but when they grow, you are going to have a problem. Especially if you plan on doubling the rock and fish. A SW tank needs to be stocked differently than a FW tank. You can't put as much fish in the SW tank. Also, the rock eats up a ton of room in the tank. A properly stocked 100g SW tank might only have 50g of water in it.

You might want to think about adding a background to the tank too. It will hide the algae and help the rock stand out more. Try a black background, looks better than blue (just my opinion!)

Rageybug, your absolutely right, a black background will make the tank look really good. It was on my to do list but there's just so many things to get.

I know that the tank is going to be fairly crowded, but I want it to be. But obviously I don't want to lose any fish or corals. I'm sure it's inevitable to lose a couple but I think I have enough of a filter system to support it. I turn the water in the tank over about 8 times every hour, with various filter systems.

Oh for those who asked I'm from Australia so we use the metric system here, but ill try and give you my specs anyway. It is 2.1m x 0.6m x 0.7m.. which is roughly 7 x 2 x 2 I think. Including the sump I have worked out I have roughly 1000 Litres, or 220 Gallons. but by the time I take rock sand coral's into account it I probably have just less then 200 gallons of actual water. I built the tank and filtration system myself so it's not your typical dimensions.

Yes I was really lucky with the clam, it was a good friends of mine and still is, but he won't have his tank up and running for another few years. It's kind of in my tank on a long term loan. :22:

What are the types of corals you keep and what type of lighting do you have?

I'm sorry, I don't know the names of my corals. Most my fish and corals were self collected (everything except for the clownfish and the clam).
My light sits on top with 3 metal halide bulbs along with 4 T5 fluorescent bulbs (I'm not 100% sure on this) and 3 blue "moonlights". Not sure what they are called lol.

Yes I have a sump. At the moment I'm running a single Aqua Medic Turbo Flotor 1000 Protein Skimmer but I don't believe it is enough, and am looking to putting another one in in the near future just to be sure.

So, you took most of whats in the tank out of the ocean? If so, that is illegal.

EDIT: LOL! Posted at the same time.

Yes,:ssmile: that's right. But it is perfectly legal where I live!

Depends... Are you getting lots of skimmate from the current skimmer? If so, you should be good, unless you're getting too much. If that's the case then you should upgrade.

Also, here's ([Only Registered Users Can See Links.]) a link to a forum that has an area dedicated to large tanks like yours.

Am I posting in the wrong forum? If i am, then I'm sorry.

Nope, this is the place to be. That is just a place with an area dedicated to large tanks(180g+). Reef Central, the one in the link, is one of the largest aquarium forums. I visit it sometimes, but this is my main forum.

Also, for anyone that knows, how necessary is it to have a bubble trap in your sump? As mine doens't...

Dave66

I assume you're talking about the bubbles from your skimmer? If they aren't getting into the tank, you don't need one. And yes, you really should up-grade your skimmer with something rated for double your tank size. PM me for recommendations.
Good looking tank and the corals appear to be thriving, but that Fromia star isn't happy. Your tank isn't mature enough to provide the bio-diversity it needs to survive. It will slowly starve to death within weeks or a few months.

Thanks for the tip dave, my skimmer is rated for the size tank I have so I will just add another one exactly the same, doubling the rating, as you have said. As for the diversity, I understand the corals/clam/various other growths feed on microscopic organisms in the water. I keep them all happy with fresh, real ocean-water changes monthly. Hopefully as time goes on my tank will become more self sufficient.

But can I ask, why do you say the fromia star isn't happy? Is rising to the top of the tank an indication of this?

Thanks :22:

Fank you very much!

Most of my corals I collect myself :) and few various item's were from a friends old tank. Would you believe I havn't paid for anything in the tank ! Except of course the price of having a boat/snorkelling gear/fuel etc

Very close, on the east coast of Australia. I could swim there if I was REALLY keen. On a big high tide I can even do a water change from out the back ! haha its very handy for this hobby :)

Hey ps... how do I give people 'reputation'?

Yeah it is handy to live near the ocean when you have a reef. I would love to live near the ocean...
