I think I may have something horrible hiding in my tank................
I have heard it before but didn't pay much attention to it.
Thumping sounds. One, two, sometimes three. I don't know from where for sure, in the tank, but it is coming from there.
A couple of threads I have read here came to mind.
Could it be I have a mantis shrimp?
Time will tell.
No disappearing fish. Maybe hermit crabs. One shrimp. Oh dear.

Could be a mantis shrimp. Mantis shrimp have a very lound sharp almost clicking noise. If it is then you should be able to entice it out with a bit of food. Like a bit of fish flesh on a skewer.
Keep an eye out at night.
I had one once and we decided to feed it and it never attacked our fish (which were quite large back then). But I know they can and will attack so if it is its best to remove it. Make sure you don't get your hands near it !

That's possible. Do you have any pumps or something that something could get jammed in?

nothing that could make this kind of sound. Thinking about it, it seems they always come in threes. It is something I will have to pay attention to.

Definitely be cautious of putting your hand in the tank till you know what you are dealing with.

I'm nervous putting my hand in the tank and I know I don't have anything bad, lol. I had a large turbo snail die in the back of the tank, and I didn't dare reach my hands between the rocks, I used tongs instead. To many unknown things in a SW tank

I'm thinking I might be short snails and hermit crabs.

Possibly a pistol shrimp? Mine feeds on my inverts from time to time so I get some empty shells piling up. Good luck either way! Hope you find what it is.
