I know they are pretty dirty fish. On my 55g I have 2 penguin 350s and a 304 fluval. If money isnt an issue for you go with a canister filter.

46 is proboby too small for an oscar though. i would say BARE minimum would be a 55. and a 75 for 2

a good canister is like 200$, but WELL WORTH IT!

there not quite that much. Fluvals a good brand and if you buy them online you can get a 305 for 85 bucks. Look on petsmart they have pretty good deals. I heard eheims a good name so look up those too. I bought my fluval at the pet store for 120.

If you print out their online price you can pick it up for the same price in store at Petsmart. 46 is not big enough for an oscar. They should definitely have a canister (or two). Bio-Wheels are great, but the cartridges are too expensive and ineffective (and too much of a hassle for all those DIY money savers for them). You should have enough biological in the canisters if you set them up right. However I would still include a HOB for surface agitation.

If you plan to shop online, check the different sites as they all offer different prices. Right now PetSmart has free shipping on order more than $50.

I've been checking this one out at Big Al's.
