I have 6 corys in my 20g long. The parameters have been fine, so that's not a problem. But...one of the corys is just sitting there all the time. The other five are swimming around like crazy - just as they did when I first got them, but this one has been sitting there in the same spot just about since like last night. I'm sure it was a little stressed after the change from sand to Eco-Complete, but they were all perky just a day after the change (Tuesday maybe) and now this one is pretty lazy. His dorsal fin is still up, but not as much as the other ones. He'll occasionally swim around for a minute or two, but always return to that spot.

Do you think the stress of the change was just too much?

He does sound stressed or maybe unwell...just keep an eye on him..

just keep an eye on him

It's all you can do, if the tank parameters are all normal..

That and maybe keep the lights off..

Well, it was feeding time for the corys, so I went ahead and dropped their wafer in the opposite end than I normally do so that it would be near the ill one hoping he'd eat some. I was looking at them, and he looks smaller than the rest. So, maybe if he eats, he'll get some energy? I sure hope so!

I think I'm going to set up an air stone to run at night. I need to get new tubing and a new stone to do it because the ones I have are pretty old and cruddy. Maybe this will help as well.

Well, after about twenty minutes of putting the wafer in, the ill cory moved to the other side of the tank. I don't think he ate anything at all. I'm worried. :help:

if you dont have a qt tank all you can do is watch him, if he looks bad it may be time to take him out, ellen... to make sure its not something that will affect the whole tank

I agree just keep an eye on him. Corys do occasionally stop as strange as that sounds:hmm3grin2orange: if my corys seem kinda lax i usually look to the tail fin for a hint like you said

what are the warning signs in their fins? clumped or not standing upright?

Yes, clamped fins are a sign of stress.

Try dropping in a treat,my peppers always attack a piece of banana.Just don't leave itmuch longer than 20mins.It gets too soft to lift out.
Just a thought to coax it to eat.

I have an Albino Cory that does that a lot. I will get to thinking that he is dying and the next minute, he is tearing around the tank again. thumbs2:

I haven't tried the banana treat yet. He seems to be doing better. The other ones have started to slow down during the day, but get active again at night. I got new tubing and an airstone yesterday to run at night, just haven't get it up yet. I may try the banana tonight. Interested to see how they like it. :)

Yep. They're albinos. They really pop with the black substrate and background!

Yes they will

thats probably it then. In my experience and a lot of others albinos tend to be kind of lazy during the day and more active at night. Tonight there are 6 tails in the air in my ten gal for the first time in a few hours and its 10 minutes until lights out

i really have no hint as to why it just seems to work out that way

I've been trying to keep a close eye on all of my corys, especially the one that seemed to be a little ill or something. I think they're all fine now! I can't even tell which one was being sluggish. They all pretty much lounge around during the day, but then they get active at night (as some of you said they will do).

I think that one cory is okay! thumbs2:

I put two algae wafers in the tank not too long ago for the corys. I think my mystery snail is eating one (the corys are swarming around the snail - and it's in the area that I put the wafers). Is this normal? lol

Ellen do you feed them sinking pellets?
Try rolling them in garlic juice first feeding them.It seemed to get my peppers interested.

Nice idea! They actually eat the wafers just fine. The mystery snail just over took one last night. lol Everyone is pretty active this morning.

Since albinos don't have pigments in their skin the light affect them more than it does other fish. This is probably why they're more active in the nighttime when they don't have the light glaring on them. Most fish dont like the high lighting we put on our tanks for our plants and this is even more true for albinos. Of course as long as you provide shaded areas like caves and bushy plants they'll be fine but this is a possible reason for the more lazy actions.

I've never thought about that. Interesting.

I do have lots of shaded areas - two caves and many plants. They usually hang out in the open though. lol
