After seeing them (and Pacus!) at the New England Aquarium I think you'd have to be pretty insane to keep them... well, not insane, but RICH (talk about needing a huge tank!)

A friend of mine has a six footer! Awesome fish, but nothing can be kept with it and it's in a huge tank...some what boring after a while.

They seem pretty cool, but i think they'd be hard to keep. What happens if you spook it when your cleaning the tank? Plus they get humongous, so to accomodate them I imagine a 250 gallon would be the minimum, and still at 6 feet whoa! gonna have to move it into something even bigger, on its own. Maybe they can deal with less, cause they aren't the most active, but all around they seem like more trouble than they'd be worth.

Thats incredible! I saw a huge eel at Big Al's.It was about 5' long,a bright yellow with black polka dots.It was really cool to look at but as entertaining as a snake to watch.So if you you like snakes you will like eels.It will need a big tank eventually.

The kicker is the fact that they do grow so large. Sooner or later I'd have to find it a new home. I think I'll stick to the spiney eels, and pass on anything I'd need to win the lottery to house properly.
