Checking my tanks as I do every nite my 54g SW was 80.5!!! It has always been 77.2!! And the heater was still on!! I turned it down to 68 and it still wouldn't shut off! I'm ordering all visitherm stealths today. This is the second Aqueon I've had this happen to. I will just use them to heat my SW for WC. This morning the tank temp was 77.4 Good thing I was home. I haven't had the best luck lately.

I have found that the visitherm are not the most reliable heaters. I would go for a different make. :ssmile:

I have two Visi-Therms that I really like. Another one that I have found to be good, and I have had no problems at all with, is the Comfort Zone brand. Keeps a very accurate temp. also. thumbs2:

I have a visa-therm in my display and a tetra in my sump, and both are hooked up to a heater controller and have been pretty good. The controller regulates the temp and you can digitally set it and it has a high and a low alarm. 80.5 actually isn't a bad temp, I keep mine at 80-81 during the day, thanks to the lights, and drops down to 79 at night. Before I got the controller I was getting slightly larger fluctuations. Too me, a controller is a very good investment and "insurance policy". Mine was only $35 including shipping. The only think I hate about mine is its always in Celsius and it can't be changed. I've seen a $20 heater destroy a whole tank too many times.
