These are cute fish. Long finned and very colorful. Said to be the poor mans neon tetra. :) They're just white clouds but a different version of them.

You better start running some more classifieds here, Algenco. Angels, white clouds, rams, plants, ???????

I saw a bag of them at the club auction last weekend. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to stay for that part of the meeting. Had to get back up the road (2+ hour drive each way) to take care of the dogs. Are they as easy to breed as standard white clouds?

Yep, they're just selectively bred for more red and long fins.

So, basically keep 'em in a planted tank and thin the crowd occaisonally... I might try them as pond fish for mosquito patrol. I know they're not actually a "tropical" species. Are they winter-hardy like goldfish?

I like the gold variety, i was considering ordering some in the near future
they dont make quite the statement those do, but they are more stunning than the usual white cloud colors

I've seen the gold or golden variety WT...they are beautiful. The LFS that I used to frequent before it went OOB had a tank with golden and meteor in the same tank. I was like this :18: for hours. Then poof, shop was gone next day! Ah well, sign of the times.

I don't know why they'd be called the poor mans neon tetra, even regular white clouds cost more than neons at my lfs. Granted, they're easy to breed, so you could start with a pair or two and raise your own school instead of buying them all, but the long-fin varieties certainly aren't relatively inexpensive IME.

Prolly because neons die easily and these are easily replaced due to the easy spawning of them? Don't know. Just repeating what the article said.
