Clicking on the link above, I uploaded a picture of my aquarium.
Note the plants. They seem like they are doing fine (correct?) - you can even see O2 bubbles frozen by the camera.

But -

The tiger lily on the right is starting to develop holes in the leaves.
The little tiger lily at the lower left which came from the bigger one is not growing fast or large leaves at all.

And my Amazons are stunted. Gone are the days when I would have to take a lawn mower to the top of my tank to get rid of the leaves poking through the surface.

Nitrogen? I suspect - but I am adding Nitrogen (as KNo3).
Iron? - Flora24 every day....

What are the weed like plant growing along the bottom ?

Angels are doing great!

You plants look nice to me. What's the red one called?

I wonder if the little holes you speak of is something nibbling on them? My juvie angels eat the heck out of greens but I haven't put them in a planted tank yet. Could be you're adding too much fertilizer? How high is your pH? Many plants like a lower pH, as well. Sorry. Wish I could help.

Wow, that tank looks great.... are all those plants real?

02-12-2007, 11:33 PM
I'd still say you have a pretty darn nice tank lol. I'm still working on some groundcover, and I may just give in and get java moss if this darn hairgrass won't spread out soon.

List of things plants need:

Good Substrate
Trace elements

You probably know all that, but I'm just throwing it out there in case you forgot something, and because I don't have much info on your plant situation.

Btw, are those jungle vals in the back? I'm stumped as to how to get them to green up too....

Oh, I thought of something Scuba. Plants actually prefer ammonium to nitrates, so you could try a product that contains both, like Seachem Nitrogen (ammonium doesn't release ammonia)

jeff will probably be your best bet for plant info though

Scuba guy, do you think you may have some snails in the tank that are punching holes in your plants?

Scuba Guy

Well - I have a ton of snails, but they seem to 'clean' the plants nicely (no algae). The holes look like 'corrosion' for lack of a better word.

02-13-2007, 09:43 PM
I believe that holes in the leaves are a cause of snails and/or maganese deficiency. How often are you changin the water, how old are your light bulbs, are you adding the same amount of fertilizer as before, and did you mak any change to the filtration (specifically, add any carbon)?
Beutiful angels btw

id go with the magense deficiency

I add Flora-24 every day, so I don't Magnesium shouldn't be a problem.
I change the water once per week (about 30%)....and then don't tell anybody when I don't.
