What's the 'secret' to big lush leaves vs. small lush leaves on the same plant?

I am asking because a Tiger lily I added to my tank a few months ago was putting out the most spectacularly big gorgeous leaves. And now it is only putting out leaves 10th of the size and the the older big leaves are starting to turn more red and developing 'holes' ?

Also - a few months ago, I cut the big plant from the 'bulb' and replanted the bulb in another part of the aquarium. (The big plant continued to grow beautiful leave.)
The bulb immediately started to grow new leaves, but at a fraction of the size of the original.

Anybody else experience this?

I've read that "trimming" plants will bring them back bushier and thicker, and I know this is true with my waterweed. I'm not sure about size of the leaves though, I'm sorry. Good question though!

Bulb plants like that (especially the water lily) store the nutrients in the bulb, and when the nutriens run low, they rely the nutrients in the water and substrate. Maybe it ran out. is another one of your plants a nutrient hog?
