I have 2 Angels in my 10 Gallon, but now I want to put Hachet Fish in the tank instead. How many do you think I can put in a 10 gallon?

5 would be alright. Unfortunetly with 10 gallons you have very limited stocking options

Angels don't believe in a 10 gallon anyway unless they are wee babies. And they grow fast.

did you mean belong Hobbs? lol

But 2 angels should have alot of room to themselves adult, like at least a 20g if not bigger

They have lived in a 10 Gallom for 3 months already. I want to give them away to someone or the store and get 5 Hachet fish. They look cool and something else to try out.

Hatchets are neat fish. They stay very close to the surface of the water and could jump out if given the chance. ;)

I agree with everyone here with 5-7 hatchets. At 1 and 1/2 inches, you could even go with about 8-10 of them if they would be the only ones in there and you did water changes weekly.

i would have about 5-7 hatchets, then maybe a few bottom dwellers, corys are the common choice but ottos could look nice.

Remember the tank is a 10 gallon, so if I put 5 Hachets in the tank I am almost at stocking level.

I have some Hachet questions.

What Kind of Hachets do you recomand? What kind are good for a 10 gallon?

How do you feed the Hachets without them jumping out?

How do you clean/do water changes without the hachets jumping out?

What plants are good for Hachets? ( I read flooting plants are not good)

I read Amazon Sword plants and Hairgrass are excellents plants for Hachets to hide in and are native plants to Hatchets. If Hatchets spend most of their time on the surface or close to the surface of the tank why would Amazon Swords and Hairgrass be excellent plants for Hatchets?

Do you fill the tank with water to the top or do you leave some empty Space (1/2-1 inch)since these are Hatchets?

you want smaller low plants, i like silver hatchets, theyre cool, you need a full tank hood for jumping fish, and feeding and cleaning, you try not to spook the fish
leave an inch or 2 from the top of the tank

my favorites are the marble hatchets (but any color variation would be fine):

Low plants becuase they do retreat to the bottom once in a while and may like something to hide and/or play in. the amazon swords are taller, so having a tall plant with surface swimmers makes sense to me. I would imagine maybe the floating plant would discourage them from jumping, but I don't know why they aren't reccommended. I take it the place you read that info from was credible? I would think they would like to breed in floating plants.

They aren't sitting there plotting their escape waiting for that lid to open. The only reasons they have to jump would be if they saw an insect (food)flying above, if the water conditions were bad, or if they were scared. You should be ok doing water changes and such, just keep an eye on them and a head count in case one does happen to take that leap.

I read the reason Floating plants should not be used is it takes away from feeding and proper growth.

Please keep answering my other questions, but I have one more question. Do Hatchets eat plants? I want to put two small Sword plants( look much preatier then fake ones by far) in the tank on the sides and 5 Pieces of fake hairgrass in the middle(I can not see paying $5.99 each for small piece of grass and I think Fake Hairgrass lookes better).

If you keep em well fed i dont think theyll eat your plants
