Well,
I went to the LFS today (same one that I donated my sailfin pleco to) and brought back a l-177. I had a hard time between this, a royal pleco, flash pleco and a tiger pleco. This guy just caught my eye.

Right now he's being drip acclimated and looking good. He has plenty of driftwood and rocks to live in. I'll post pics as soon as he's in there.

I also have a new piece of driftwood soaking in my bathtub. It will replace the current piece in the tank.

Gold Nugget pleco?? They are quite nice and I've contemplated getting one, but I picked up a royal instead at the time. How big is he?

Gold nuggets are totally beautiful little plecs but notoriously hard
to acclimatise and get feeding, mine never seemed to eat anything
and I tried it with everything, but it thrived somehow and I had it for
8mths before I traded it on. I hope yours does well for you!

The problem with gold nuggets is that the symbiotic bacteria in their gut that allows them to digest their food don't often survive the shipping process. Few importers/distributors feed the fish they receive to cut costs. It's best to be sure the fish is eating at the lfs before taking it home.

This is actually the first fish I've purchased from this LFS. They are one of the best around and do know a lot about plecos (so I hear) so I'm not worried. They are about 20 miles from Pittsburgh International Airport and they are always going to the airport to pick up new fish.

Here is the only pic I can take of him.

He's in the clown loach cave. They don't seem to mind the new roommate. The light you see is from a pen light that I was using to illuminate the cave.

Here's the driftwood I picked up from the Ohio River. (the Q-tip on the floor is from my fiance)

Thanks! I can't wait to put the wood in. Maybe in a week.

The new pleco is doing ok and is moving around the cave a little. I managed to snap another pic. I'd say he's actually about 1.5 inches...

Why are waiting so long to put the wood in?
Is it soaking right now?

I found it on Saturday and is really buoyant. I also want to make sure all of the critters living in it die. You would not believe the amount of bugs that were floating in the water with my last piece.

I also wanted to wait until the pleco is a little less stressed. Speaking of him, he finally left the cave last night and is now hiding in between some driftwood. thumbs2:

Figured I'd post up a pic of him. I only see him at night and was surprised to see him chilling behind the new piece of driftwood...
