Well, if the events in the basement yesterday werent bad enough, theres more.
First, I checked all the basement tanks for disease and equipment this morning, all was good. I flipped on the t.v and started up my 360 and then i heard a noise. By a bunch of shelving, it sounded like a pack of smarties rattling. I counted all my toads, and there was still 3. if one got out, that would be the noise.
It's still going. Every 10 or so minutes you can hear the roud rattling clearly.
now, its really ticking me off. It cant be a mouse, because its a really loud noise.
Now, im sitting with a baseball bat and a hammer waiting for the kritter to strike.
lol

Never heard of a 22 gauge. Did you mean .22 caliber rifle, or 20 gauge shotgun?

Personaly i would go for a 10 gauge with double aught buckshot. But thats personal opinion.

10 gauge with double aught buckshot should be good.
But the thing is, i dont know what it could be besides a mouse.
Nothing else is small enough to get in. And, the only animals i have down there are fish and toads

My advice, start shooting, and dont stop untill the noise is gone. Not a very conservative method, but its more fun, and it gets the job done!

He still gets WAY too over excited about food and tries to jump at it before I have a chance to get a foot away

It sounds like it has to be a mouse. Youd be surprised at how loud they really can be!

I had a mouse keep eating my hampster food. One night, i got the camcorder with the infared and campedout on my bed. The little sucker ran to get some food, and i pinned him to the base board with my blowgun.

Hehe, we had a mouse sneak into the dorm across the hall from me. Apparently, one of the girls living there was grabbing something from her closet, and it jumped out onto her shirt. I'm sure most of the building woke up after the ensuing screaming and yelling. After luring it with some food, we managed to trap it underneath this huge underbed storage container. But then, as we lifted the container a little to take a picture (I know, stupid us) the thing ran out and we lost track of where it went. The girl wouldn't take "Just leave the guy alone and he'll come out by himself" for an answer, so we had to remove all the furniture at like 2 in the morning....lol. And once we did find the guy, he ran into the closet again, but we finally got him out of the building after another 10 minutes of messing around. Fun times lol.

i still dont think its a mouse. Its a REALLY loud noise and it sounds like a pack of smarties shaking.
Ive seen a few mice down there over the years since its winter, so maybe its a really loud mouse

You try baiting any traps?

cocoa_pleco
02-12-2007, 01:48 PM
I ran out to home hardware and grabbed a 100$ trap.
I can still hear it running it around, and now the only way ill go in the basement is to take care of the fish and toads

$100 trap?
What are you trying to catch? A bear? lol

cocoa_pleco

no, its some humane thing that once they step on a switch the trap door closes and they have a food supply and all that jazz. It was the only one they had

Chrona
02-12-2007, 02:23 PM
Wow, your hardware store charges a pretty large margin lol. You should have gotten one of those Havahart traps for like 10 bucks. They trap the mouse so you can drop them off accross town or into your neighbors yard :wink2:

i still think its a big kritter. This lil puppy can trap anything the size of a cat, so im set

mother frick, whatever the hell is making that noise is right by my toad tank, and I had to fix the toads tanks driftwood and I can hear scratching and odd noises. I need landmines or something.

Severus

Have you taken everything away from the tank and looked around. Chances are if you do that you will see a little mouse scurry away.

cocoa_pleco
02-12-2007, 08:45 PM
well, i think i know what it is.
My neighbors who are jerks always, recently patched up their house to make it squirrel proof, so the squirrels must be comin to my place.

I have seen mice down there, and once found a dead one on my 360, so now i have full hoods on all my tanks because i used to belong to another forum and some guy had a mouse drink from his tank and he had a huge outbreak of fin rot and all these diseases and lost tons of fish and ripped down his whole tank

Severus

cocoa_pleco

A 12 gauge slug is like shooting half a roll of leaden nickles taped together going approx. 750-1250 feet per second at something. OH YEAH!!!thumbs2:

Actually, slugs are quite clean when it comes to shooting game. But, the recoil will leave you bruised for weeks!

I was more referring to a little mouse or squirrel being a mess cause of their size, but yes compared to buckshot or whatever i would imagine it is cleaner.

Oh Yea, i know a guy who shot a squirrel in the butt with a .177(the size of a bb, but in a rifle shell) HMR (goes about 2750 Feet per second) and it blew him in half!
