Zebra Danios playing tag

I have have four Zebra Danios in a 10G tank. I originally had five but I lost one that was much smaller then the rest.

Instead of schooling they spend most of their time spread out chasing one another.

There is one that seems to be the biggest bully, but after watching closely it appears as though they all chase each other. I have even witnessed the smallest chasing the largest of the group.

From what I have read I am thinking that I would need many more in a larger tank for them to school together, is this correct?

There is never any actual physical damage that I can detect.

I am wondering if this behavior is unhealthy and a sign of stress or if it is acceptable and of no detriment to the fish.

I have 6 and they dont school. They're behavior can best be described as, ummmm, manic. Yeah, thats it....

I find when I disturb the tank such as for cleaning, they will group closer together and almost school.

That behaviour is just natural for zebra danios. They love to chase each other and that's just what they do. Do not worry at all... in fact, being active is a sign that they are happy! thumbs2:

That is a relief, I was getting stressed out thinking they wee trying to kill each other lol.

yeah, I have 3 long finned blue danios. they haven't stopped chasing each other since the day i put them in there almost a year ago.

means they're healthy and happy!

My 5 giant danios school most of the time, as opposed to playing tag. And they play follow the leader. Maybe it's because they are in a 45g... and I haven't put the displaced fish back in yet.

i have three zebra danios, they are constantly moving and zipping around the tank. not only do they chase each other but they will also chase any one who gets in the way of their game. the crazy activity is why i love them. they are fun to watch.

I'v got 8 zebra danios and they play tag all day. I never see them schooling. I have the long fin variety, and apparently they are fin nippers! watch out! They love to go after each other's long fins.
