I got myself a new puffer today....the kids have named it Shamrock, I call it Shamus (shay-mus) which is what my grandmother always called my grandfather, James.
It was labeled as a neon green modest puffer....my research tells me it is an auriglobus modestus........an aggressive puffer that has already been returned to the store twice! He will inhabit my 29 gallon all by himself, others have been removed except those that will eventually become puffer meals.
Unfortunately, they had him in a brackish tank, my research also shows me that this is a freshwater fish, but to be on the safe side and to not stress him I have brought the tank up to within .002 of the salinity that the water he was already in was at and am acclimating him slowly. Hopefully this won't totally kill my bio filter changing to brackish, but if it does I know what to do! I will be watching this baby closely over the next few weeks....he is already looking quite interested in getting out of the bag.
