how would a yellow tang go in a 4ft long, 2ft wide, 2ft high tank ? This will hold 120 gallons which I know is enough, its the length of the tank that I am not sure of as from what I have read tangs prefer long tanks.

cheers

It will be fine. My tank is the same dimensions as yours. You also have to take into account the amount of swimming space that your overflow(s), equipment and rock take up.

It will be significantly less than 120g when the above is subtracted

i personally like to see them in 72" long or more tanks

which tank would be best for a yellow tang out of a 6ft that holds 100 gallons or a 4ft that holds 120 gallons ?

Either one of those tanks is going to be fine. The 6ft tank is going to give it more linear swimming space but the 4x2x2 is IMO enough for the Tang.

I'd go with the 6' tank just so I have more option with fish, coral and LR set up. Either tank will be fine for the yellow tang, all you need to do is pick the tank.

All of the fish you mentioned would be good. For a nice reef safe wrasse, I'd highly recommend the Solar Wrasse if you can get it, they are beautiful fish, although you may want to consider a 6' tank for one. Any of the "Fairy" wrasses are going to be nice reef safe fish, however they are extremely active fish and suited for 6' tanks. There are a number of really nice Flasher Wrasses as well that are reef safe and would do fine in a 4' tank.
