Alright, soo being the romantic i am i got my girl a 10g starter set so she can enjoy her own aquarium. So i got a nice little tetra set and we started setting it up we rinsed the gravel and filled the tank, we put the water conditioner in and we walked away.
We took a look a little later and on all the surface area in the tank little bubbles? Good? Bad? Normal? lol what should i do?

thanks a bunch!

I'm no expert but i'd say your tap water probably was pressured and colder? Letting it hold much more oxygen then normal water?

When you put it in the tank it decompressed, and the oxygen could no longer be held in the water and formed the bubbles....

Anyway that's my guess. I wouldn't worry about it.

You are going to need some Tetra Safe Start to add to the tank.It will help out your cycle and save your fish, you may have only used dechlorinator.
There is a free E-book on the left that I recomend you both read.It will help out!

Hey, you live in St. Catharines!? Canada? Me too!

You'll have to cycle your tank before adding any fish.

The little bubbles aren't a problem but the ammonia spikes after you add a few fish will be. Read the free e-book.

Whenever I do a waterchange it turns my tanks into bubble city for a few hours...when filling a new tank I sometimes have bubbles for a few days so it is nothing to worry about... it's actually kind of pretty thumbs2:

If there are no fish in there, the bubbles will slowly dissolve back into the water. If there are fish they will probably be disturbed and float to the surface. A quick way to get them off the glass is to just run your net along the side and they will float to the top.

Dont you worry we are cycling and the guy at pet land said if we threw in a feeder it would help it along but we know were going to let it run for a couple weeks thn start slowly adding fish.
ohhh and were do you get your fish related stuff lol since were in the same place.?

Agreed with above posters, cycle the tank first, the ebook will lend some hints. Introducing fish slowly just doesnt cut it if you dont want the fish to suffer. Fishless cycle is what i always recommend. You could let the tank sit for a year and without any plants or snails, it will never cycle. unless you add fish or ammonia.
I get those bubbles literally everytime i fill up a new tank, goes away after a day or so. Never get them from water changes though. Either way, its nothing to worry about at all.

Who told you that?

Was it Erik, the guy with long hair? Sort of looks like a hippie? He has a thing for feeders. Just look at all the monster fish tanks. They all have feeders in them. I think he just wants to get rid of them.
You shouldn't really cycle with feeder fish. They is a reason they are only a few cents, they are loaded with disease which can get into your gravel and affect the other fish. Petland is pretty good with feeders in terms of health though.

Slowly adding fish is one way, a fishless cycle is a better way though. You can cycle with fish but you will have to do water changes every other day or every third day to keep the fish alive. Ammonia builds up which will kill the fish. Only cycle the tank with hardy fish, like zebra danios.

I get all of the random fish things at the PetSmart on YMCA drive, and I get some live fish at the PetsMart down in the Wal-mart/Best-buy plaza just because its close to me. They have healthier fish than at YMCA. I don't go to petland too much anymore, except for monster fish. Their prices are twice as high as anyone else. Awesome selection though. That is where I sell my baby fish that I breed though, and so I have to like them for that. Pretty much every corydora and guppy in that place is mine.

For the best stuff I go to Big Als in Hamilton. They have a great selection of fish and plants and equipment there, a million times better than anywhere else. Ask for James if he is there, that guy knows his stuff! The employees actually know what they are doing, not just kids that walk on for a little bit of extra cash. They'll help you with anything and you can usually trust what they are saying, you don't need to go home and triple check it to make sure. Its a long drive, but its worth it. They have the best prices of anywhere in Niagara too. Great deals. The one in Oakville is also good, and the one is Missisauga is good too. Again, further away though.

Without being a stalker, whereabouts are you generally in St. Catharines? We could be neighbours and not even know about it! I represent West Hill (happiest place on earth!) myself, I live near Club Roma and the Power Glen school.

Ah, so you're not right next to me then. You're down the street from a nice petsmart though, lucky you.

Reading the e-book would be the best thing for you then. Its long but its all stuff you will be hearing sooner or later anyways. Good luck!

Yes, if you have used media available thats by far the easiest and fastest way to cycle a tank. Just piggy back a little bit of it over, and the bacteria will spread quickly with an ammonia source (put fish in the same day as the media)

Lol Nick!

You do raise some ideas though.... i mean.... can they charge you for stealing bacteria?:hmm3grin2orange:

Around here you pay double what the item costs as a fine for shoplifting...so whats zero times 2? :D

LOL, that was my same reaction......6 or 7 yeas ago.

Petland isn't too bad. They are the only pet store around that will actually put peat in their aquariums for fish that like acidic water, even though it makes it look less attractive to buyers. That gives them a point in my book, especially if you know how our water is.
They have a good selection of things you can't find at any petsmart, and they have monster fish. No monster fish at BigAls, but petland is chock full of them. Another point.
Still, the prices are crazy! Last time I went, which was yesterday, they had rummies for something like $5.99 a pop, $7 rasboras, I have no idea how they sell anything! And that arowana! You remember that big long fish at the back of the store? Ask them how much they want for it, its good for a laugh. :hmm3grin2orange:
That thing has been there for years.

BigAls though...hands down the best! Have you seen the reef display tank? That thing is amazing! And James' planted tank! You should have seen it in the summer when he was working there full time, best tank I'd ever seen, in real life that is. Now its bare and dying back, he has 3 dozen SAEs and 20 million otos in there just to clean up because he is never around. Really hoping he gets it back up in the summer so you can really get inspired for this hobby. The only thing I dislike about them is the shark. Its like a 10' shark in a 15' tank. The thing can barely move, and it can't turn around unless it sticks its head nearly out of the water. They've been trying to get rid of it for years, but who around here wants a 10' shark? They should have known not to buy it in the first place.
But oh well, what are you going to do. Everything else gets an A+ from me.

Any other questions feel free to ask!
