Yesterday I introduced six new neon teras to my 55g tank. It is about 1/4 planted, PH 7.2, Ammonia - 0, Nitrates 0 - 10 ppm and temp 24C.

Current living residents 7 neons, 4 kuhli loaches and 1 bristle nose.

So far 3 of the new tetras have died. The first within 2 hours of bringing him home. Today 2 more died. One went spacey and was staring at the glass, ignoring food, another simply died.

There is now another swimming in spirals away from the rest of the group. I think he will be dead as soon as I finish this and check him. I am pretty sure these are the new ones as they are slightly smaller than the introduced ones. However if I am wrong, my original tetras have all died within 2 weeks of going into the tank or within 36 hours of the new ones being introduced.

Any suggestions.

I had that problem with neons. For me it was a combination of bad stock and my water being too hard. The poor things were so far gone when I bought them, so were dead in the bag before I got home.
There has too be more to it in your case though, because you established school died too.

They could have neon tetra disease. I would wait before buying more for now and try to buy the next batch from another supplier. I don't think it's a common disease but is a disease none-the-less. Neons are pretty sensitive and I've lost some for no apparent reason but never more than one just ever so often.

I lost 6 out of 10 that I'd added as well, but it was my fault because I added them before the tank finished cycling. It was before I knew better :( The remaining 4 seem fine though, and I'm going to add more today.

hard water and neon tetra disease are often the cause
