As some of you know, I have to take a break from this wonderful hobby, but in about a year from now, I'll be back in full swing!
This gives me plenty of time to save money for my dream aquarium.....a 200 gallon south american tank. Oh, how I do love those south american fishies!! :D
Ok, so a 200 gallon tank is massive. Options are pretty much limitless here, but I have a few fish that I'd specifically like to keep:
clown knifefish
giant gourami
(ok, so those two aren't south american, but they are exceptions. They are just too awesome to overlook)
silver arowana
planted discus community with blue rams and cardinal tetras
I've read up enough on the planted discus community, and I definitely think I should try my hand at that at least once. As for the others, I don't know much about them to know compatibility and tankmates for them.
What would you do with a 200 gallon? :D

I'd fill it with water and put in some fishies!!

perhaps a very dangerous and nerve-racking cichlid community? (those have to be the most difficult on account of the cichlids' unpredictable behaviors)

Definetely saltwater. Clownfish, blue tang, six line wrasse, shoal of blue-green chromis oh my.
Or maybe a planted tank with an uber shoal of cardinal tetras. Like 100 of them...lol

i just about bought a 300 gal for 100$ used, but have no room. Id put 5 oscars, 4 plecos, and 5 upside down cats in a 200g, and maybe a stingray

ah, I see someone else loves the "wow" of huge schools! There's nothing like being mesmerized by a massive shoal of colors.

wow, that's a steal! With 300 gallons, I'd house a pacu. Cute giant freaks, they are. ;)

Yep, although a shoal of saltwater fish like chromis might actually be more entertaining, since it seems giant shoals of cardinals just move really slowly around the tank.
Heres 49 cardinals feeding

My mouth started to water thinking about it, but I think I'd do a pair of Peacock Bass and possibly a polypterus of some variety and that'd be about it.
Or maybe 10 Jack Dempseys......
Or 8 Oscars.......
Or,or,or,or......oh I think I need to lie down :hmm3grin2orange:

oooops my bad I was thinking of a 300g. In a 200 i'd definately do a school of either 6 JDs, or 5 Oscars,

Move into it, b/c it would prob take up most of my house! :hmm3grin2orange:
Seriously though, with unlimited funds, I would set up one of the coolest Reef tanks with Tangs, Clownfish, and soooo many other really cool stuff, it would be awesome.

for me, its not the funds that are the problem- its room. In the basement, I have ABSOLUTELY no more tank room. My office desk has my toads, my minifridge has my krib tank, and now my coffee table has my new 20g and 2.5 g

With that big of a tank it would either be a school of clown loaches with several schools of tetras etc. or a large puffer.

I believe I would have to opt for a wonderful Discus tank.

with 200 gallons? discus would be my first choice as ive always wanted some. other choices would be oscars or puffers. or a huge community tank with lots of species of fish, or just a tetra tank, imagin hundreds of tetra colors darting around, just thinking about it makes me want to go out and buy one.

I do love the discus as well, but the only thing that concerns me about them is that I've heard they don't really interact with their owner very much. I absolutely enjoy a fish that will greet me when I come in the room and take food from my hand, but I haven't heard of discus really doing that so much.
They would be pretty impressive, but I'm afraid I would get bored with them after a little while. I don't know, has anyone heard of them being personable?

I couldn't fit a tank that big in my house. But boy would that be fun. I love the idea of Giant Gouramies, I would love to see some for real, but it is hard to imagine a tank large enough to fit them comfortably - they grow to 30 inches and need room to move. I would like to see a tank with larger species of fish, bala sharks are also very nice, I saw a large tank with a batch of them at one of our local libraries. It was custom built and would never fit through the front door of my house.

A whole bunch of rainbow sharks with a whole bunch of cardinal tetras in a heavily planted tank

I would get a Sting Ray for 200 Gallon . Since I am planning to get a 100 Gallon soon I am just going to have diffrent large schools of fish for a community tank.
