I have five Celestial Pearl Danio in a 20G Long tank that I have been playing with. Med to Heavily planted.

I have had great success with breeding no matter where the light source.

My point of this post is to share that I have noticed that the position of the light clearly affects the skittishness of the CPD. When I have the light over the back half of the hood they stay in back and when I move it to the front half they move to the foreground and follow the light.

I use a dual bulb T5 36 Watt unit - so it's bright. I am not sure if the cause is that they can not see the room outside as well with the light so bright in front or not - they are still able to know when I sneak up on them. That was my first thought but am now thinking maybe not. . .whatever the reason, they follow the light to the foreground so if you are wondering why yours are always in the back try doing the opposite of what you might think and move the light forward and see if they follow it.
