I would like to add Cory's to my 55g planted but I am concerned about putting six of them in a tank that small .
I have about a dozen small fish at the moment and plenty of filtration so that is not a problem.
From what I understand they like to be in fairly large groups.
Any thoughts?

Thats completely fine.
You could even double that, or triple it if you are going with smaller cories like pandas or pygmy.

Pygmies are also great. A school of 6-8 regular corys would work for your tank.

Whats the average size of these little guys?
Thanks

I have about 15 pygmy cories in my 55g tank. They are about 2cm long, and fairly active, fun to watch. Great scavengers.

Depends on the species, the dwarf species stay around 1", there are a lot of species that grow to around 2 or so" but some species can grow much larger. Research the particular species to get an idea of how many you want to get.

Thought I would take a drive to the LFS to see what they have and to my surprise they had at least a half dozen different Cory's.
I really liked the look of the Peppered Cory's that they have and they are still very small , less than half n inch.
I didn't buy them because I wanted to research them a little first, and now I see they will be fine.
So it's back to the store to pick up at least a half dozen.
They are selling 3/$11.00 seems reasonable.
While I am there is there any specific food I should pick up for the little guys?

Mine love Hikari sinking wafers--you might try those.

I like the hikari sinking wafers and tubifex worms for them. My old peppers went crazy for the worms but you have to make sure they're only a treat because tubifex are very high in fat.

My corys go nuts over those tubifex worms~it's a once/twice week thing for them, didn't know about the fat content..

My pandas don't really like anything but bloodworms and NLS small fish formula..
I thought they'd like sinking wafers, but not so much..
Haven't tried tubifex worms yet..

Peppered cories are one of the biggest varieties, so you won't be able to keep the full dozen in there. Maybe 6-8 to start off would be better. They can easily reach 3". For a bit of comparison my biggest peppered cories are about the size of my bolivian rams. The males are smaller though.
Still, they are probably one of the easiest cories to care for.
I feed mine almost exclusively Hikari sinking wafers. They also get tubifex and blood worms as a supplement. That and whatever else falls to the substrate.
My cories go nuts over anything. They especially like the wafers though, more than anything.

My pygmy cories don't like those sinking wafers either. But those sinking shrimp pellets, they go crazy over them.

I feed my corys sinking wafers (i switch between spirulina and kelp based) frozen blood worms or frozen spirulina brineshimp twice a week. They get some flake occasionally, different kinds. Peppered are one of the larger of the common varieties, but in a 55 8-10 is fine IMO. Better than 6
My corydoras go crazy over frozen bloodworms. My pygmy's also like to eat the veggies I put in for the otos.

Emerald corys can get to 4in long. Peppers are a nice size at @3in fll grown, males are smaller than females.
Corys are nice since they earn their keep eating up lost flake food the other fish cant get to. I put 8 in my tank a whole ago and so far it made no difference in the bio load or water chemistry.
in a 55 with good filtration I dont see 8 or 12 peppers being a problem at all.

Well back from the LFS with the new family:19: .
What was listed as Peppered Corys turned out to be Schwartz's Corys.
Very active little guys , they are quickly becoming my favorite.
