View Full Version : I'm running out of amonia

Yup, a 64 oz bottle at that! My amonia goes away quickly, yet my nitrItes stay at the same level. IF I can't cycle this tank with 64oz of amonia.... then I'm going to phaise two which is chemically getting the water right for fish. I'm really getting freustrated.

Getting the water right, chemically is impossible Mith....The Nitrites will drop soon...What are you maintaining the Ammonia at now?

In all honesty, i was maintaining too high (4-5ppm) but lately 2-3ppm. but the amonia goes back to zero in a few hours....

You've got to be patient. This phase of the cycle can sometimes seem to "stick." You're almost there!

You ARE almost there, Mith! Sometimes this stage can be the slowest part. Have patience! Research more fish or something!!!:hmm3grin2orange:

Mith, what if it does require another bottle of ammonia. It cost $1.

You are darned near done, man. Don't go getting all sappy now!

Mith, hang in there, I went through the same thing. I was overdosing too, adding TWICE a day everytime ammonia dropped to 0. I did a 50% water change to bring nitrite back to readable levels. It also seemed to take forever, stuck at 2 ppm. Then BANG, literally almost overnight, nitrates were up and nitrite was gone. I am just beyond 5 weeks, right where the average time line is. In hindsight, everything happened just the way it is written and how others here said it would. Check some of my posts to see what I mean.

I keep the water at 79. I keep the 4' bubble wand on HIGH.
I guess I just got weak and I apologize for whining. I guess I just needed to come here for encouragement.

Miss Hobbs, I will try to post in the correct forum. I have been terrible about paying close enough attention to where I'm starting my threads! You're a patient woman!

Its ok, dont worry you arent the first!

you could jack the heat up to 85, i believe thats closer to the temps that both the types of bacteria you are trying to grow like.

Just bought some amonia, "pure" amonia... but when I shake the bottle, it has foam! There are no ingredients listed on the bottle. I am now wondering if it really is in fact, "pure".....

guess I'll find out soon enough!

Be very careful because if it has surfactants it could damage your cycle.
