OK,
My son has a Geometry problem that the teacher will not explain before the test. Good thing is that it is multiple choice.

Question: If Angle JKL ~ Angle RST, which of the following is true?

A) K ~ T

Answers B thru D show a letter from the first group followed by ~ with an equals sign under it, then a letter from the second group?

Something like this:
J ~ S
=

Do I assume since A is the only answer that has just the ~ symbol, that A is the right answer?

7th grade! I didn't have this stuff till H.S.

There aren't any diagrams? Hold on a sec, I'll get it. WHat are all the choices btw? I don't think it is A though, simply because it is the only with just the ~. Multiple choice stuff is made so that the correct answer always has at least 1-2 answers like it. The answer won't be unique.

Diagrams would come in handy, but with the info available, I'd look for the answers

J=R
K=S or
L=T

OK, but all the answers have that little squiggly on top of the = sign???

Am I supposed to choose the one that corresponds with the letter in the other group.

JKL, RST

So if I see J=R or K=S, that would be it?

They had no diagram BTW

Yep, thats my guess, although they really should have included the angle symbol before the letters if they were going to make the question like that...

The squiggly means that the two measures are proportional, adding the equal sign means that they can also be identical.

Take for example the classic pythagorum triangle. The three sides are 3", 4" and 5" in length. A triangle that is ~ is one that has sides that are 6", 8" and 10". The two triangles aren't identical, but they are proportional.

Am I the only one getting flashback of their high school math classes?

Unfortunately, theres no information on what kind of shape the thing is. It just says angle XYZ and angle XYZ. Seems like a really poorly worded question to me.

High school math, exactly!
My kid is only 7th grade!
Well, I think I figured it out.

Angle RST ~ Angle JKL, or visa versa.

The right answer would be R = T, or S = K, or T = L, with the squiggly line above the equal sign.
I hope that's right, and thanks!

That is High School Geo. I hated it when i took it. Proofs are the worst

k=s because they are the points in the middle of the angle
the other four points can be any distance in space from them.

I always failed that $hit in gr.9 lol

Thank you Krazihorz!

Now I got it.
I was actually an ace in math, but that was moons ago. Now they teach different methods.
