I bet this diver got a nice surprise when this monster appeared
out of the shoal :hmm3grin2orange:

As a matter of interest, does anyone know what kind of fish it is,
and is it dangerous to the diver?

I don't know the fish type, but I sure would have wet my suit when that appeared! (yes, the cheesy pun was intended, but still a likely outcome from such an encounter.)

Goliath Grouper, formerly called "Jewfish" totally protected in U.S. waters

Goliath Grouper are becoming a nuisance in Florida waters, fishermen are complaining they can't catch more than a couple snappers off of a wreck/reef before the grouper move in and take every fish they catch.

2-300# Goliaths can be caught about anywhere along the coast.
It is now against Federal regulations to remove one from the water

I totally love that photo. I've come back to this thread about 4 times now to look at it again. That diver looks like he's bookin' to get out of there. LOL

It's now the background on my computer!

That is so amazing if I didn't know fish like that existed I would say it was photoshopped. I guess it still could be.

I bet he thought he had zoomed in too far!

OMG I guess that is a bull or tiger shark ?

Apparently the giant grouper can be dangerouse to divers.

One was dragged down to the depths by a giant grouper a few years back some where.:ssuprised:

I suppose anything several times larger than you is a danger...

...thinks of getting stepped on by horses...*owie*

...especially if it can eat you...

QUOTE]

Slightly of subject, I seen a guy a few years ago that had been attacked
by a stallion, think of the worst car wreck imaginable and multiply by 3
I never seen anything like it before or since, nor do I ever want to again.
And worst of all it was his own horse. I guess you can never trust animals.

I can just imagine! My worst norse-related injury came from accidently getting inbetween two mares...as they kicked at each other...
