I have 12 Galaxy rasobora to pick up on Wednesday. I ordred loads of vallis plants of different types incase they breed ( which I an hoping they will).
I am setting up a 20 UK gallon Tank ( 100 ltrs) with a filter that has been running on one of my other tanks ( always keep spares just in case )
I am just wondering is 12 more than enough or should I go for more or get something else to go in with them and what would you recomend or are they better off just being in the tank on there own ?
It's a long, long, long time since I did a tank like this. :hmm3grin2orange:

I started with 6 - just make sure you have a lot of moss for the eggs and little ones to hide in and before you know it you will have 60 more thumbs2: thumbs2: I keep mine with Blue Pearl Shrimp

I'd love 12 of those suckers, like Jess said, moss is a great thing to go in with them. Most fine leaved plants (cabomba, hornwort, mosses etc) would be great for their egglaying and sheltering fry.
As for tankmates, if you want the fry to survive I would avoid other fish but shrimp would be great. RCS would work, so would most other neocardina that I can think of.

Ok thanks for the feed back Alex. I will get cabomba in stead of vallis.
I have never kept shrimp before so I will have a read up on what they need. thumbs2:
Thanks Brookfish. thumbs2:

Cherries would work great - any small shrimp - they are super easy to keep if your tank is fully cylced and clean up any food rest which is brilliant if the tank is filled with moss and there is leftover food from feeding the fry.
Shrimp are group animals so I would start with 10 - as with the galaxies within 6 months you will have hundreds :11:

Hi there CF,
Good luck with your shopping trip tomorrow. I keep RCS - they breed prolifically in my tank and I have slightly harder water conditions though. Good luck with the breeding programme.

That's about, what, just over 5 dollars a fish at current exchange rates?
So in the meantime, you're cleaning the sensor, lenses, and charging batteries, right?

These fish confuse me. They are danio's, not rasbora, but are called rasbora. I like rasbora but do not like danio's so don't know if I want them or not. They are beautiful but what ARE they?

No a photography shop does my sensors within the hour if they need doing. My lens is always clean. Batteries are charged and back in the camera & flash gun. I don't mess about you know. :hmm3grin2orange:

We may find out for sure one day Lady Hobbs.
What really gets me is them changing the names of fish again just as your used to the last one and not telling anyone. :hmm3grin2orange:

They are very pretty and your shots of them are great. I will wait and see how much you like yours before thinking of them myself. If they act like manics, chase each other constantly and won't give the female one second to herself, then you know they are danio's. If they just swim around nice and are friendly to all others, then you know you have rasbora.

I wouldn't have got them if I didn't want them. :hmm3grin2orange:
They are all swimming about in a little tight group.
There acting just like harlequins.
Maybe the danio side comes out at breeding time.
But for the last 48 hours there has been no chasing just schooling.
They seem very laid back.
They would add a great splash of colour to your tank Lady Hobbs. :ssmile:

Awesome!! Great shots, they're beautiful! I saw a sign at my LFS the other day with "Galaxy Rasbora" on it, but they were sold out. They apparently get them in sometimes, so someday maybe I'll have some. At 7.49 each, I think I'm gonna have to wait for the price to come down some... or I make some money, lol

You can try local breeders. I found one on a local aquarium forum and got 14 for $30 or $35. Some were just small fry, but they are growing and all have survived. I've had them for a couple months now.
I'm glad to see somebody else is keeping them. So far I've not noticed any breeding, but I'm wondering if having 14 in a 10 gallon has something to do with that. Keep us posted on how things go! Good pics. Mine never turned out well, but I haven't tried in a while. Maybe I can get something better.
Oh, and sorry about the shrimp :( What happened?
Also, do you have any full tank shot's to show what you are keeping them in?

Is your tank well planted?
I sure will but I doubt they will breed that quick. They are only about 3/4 " in size right now.
Good pics. Mine never turned out well, but I haven't tried in a while. Maybe I can get something better.?
Thanks. Best thing to do is practice. If you only have apoint and shoot there isn't much you can do.

Thanks. I just looked in the tank and there all dead on the floor of the tank,
Also, do you have any full tank shot's to show what you are keeping them in?
No I don't do full tank shots at the moment as I can't seem to get the settings right to take any.

My tank is planted. I have a good patch of java moss, had some hornwort (messy stuff. I hated it and finally got rid of it) Some narrow leaf java moss, some struggling wisteria, and some new plants courtesy of wolf_eyes (watersprite and another type of fern) It's not heavily planted, but it is medium. My levels are okay, so I don't think 14 of the little guys is too heavy a bio load, but it may just seem crowded to them or something. Or they are breeding, but no fry are making it.
As for the size. They don't get much bigger than 3/4 inch. That's part of their charm. They're TINY! My biggest hit around 1", and those are females. The males may fall just shy.
I just have a point and shoot camera, unfortunately. It has a very small shutter lag for a point and shoot, but it still has the lag. I'll see if I can't get some pics in the next few days. The old pic of the setup is linked in my signiture.

Ahh ok. Yes it could be any one of those problems.
I have cabomba growing in my tanks and the danio's love it.

Well, I've had some for a year and if I don't take the fry (fish sticks) out, they get eaten.
Watch for the fry sticking on the glass and siphon them out , aka "fish sticks",
they are tiny

Lovely shots of the rasboros.
I'm sorry to learn that your shimp have died. Mine are as tough as old boots for some reason - pitty I can't post you some. Hopefully your success with the rasboros will outweigh the loss of the shimps.
Good luck with the breeding programme.
