Hi all,

I'm looking at submersible aquarium heaters and have come across two....

Tetra Whisper Submersible Heater is pre-set for 78 degrees. I guess you just stick it in and turn it on.

Marineland's Visi-Therm Deluxe has a "click-set temperature dial" (whatever that is), so I guess you have to manually set it.

Which one do you guys think is better? I was thinking the Marineland because it's adjustable, but I really have no idea. Both have sizes for a 10-20 gal, and both are about the same price.

Visi-Therm hands down. Many people here like the visi-therm stealth. It's the heater of choice on AC!

You definetely want to go with a adjustable one, since there are situations where you will want to change your temp (different fish, stimulating sluggish fish to eat, etc) I've heard great things about the Visitherms in terms of reliability (probably the more important aspect since heaters nowadays are all pretty accurate) and accuracy. A friend of mine skimped on his heater and ended up pot boiling his tank when the thermostat got stuck and raised the temperature to 100 degrees.

floored ninjaed the first response T.T

ditto. I love mine. Another reason it's better is that it's a hard plastic instead of glass, so you have less worry of it burning your fish or cracking open. I've never had a single problem with it. It's definitely worth it.

Is there a difference in the Visi-therm STEALTH and the Visi-therm DELUXE? I went to the Marineland website but I don't really know enough about heaters in general to know what the differences were.

Looks pretty much the same. The deluxe is slightly more accurate I guess, but it looks like it uses glass, whereas the stealth is less consipicuous and uses hard plastic.

Go with a stealth for sure. I have them on 3 of my tanks and I never see the temperature change at all unless I move the dial myself. Plus The plastic is black so you hardly notice it. IDK about the deluxe but the stealth also turns off if it is taken out of the water.

id go with stealths. Im gonna buy one soon.

Long story.
I got one of those non-submersible heaters in a kit.

Yesterday, i was going to put waste control in.
I put one cap in, and had to put in another, and I stumbled and 4 capfuls flew in, so i had to do a water change, and so the heater wouldnt explode dry (its happened before) i threw the heater in a lukewarm bucket- but the heaters non sub, so i fried it and have to use a old heater
