String Algae

Hi all,

It's finally warming up in Socal. I have a 1500 gal. in ground pond with about 15 or so koi in it. The water is very murky, I tried to have a partial (maybe 1/3) water change every week and I have a 130w UV light. There is a lot of string algae in the pond, I had to use a broom to get some of it out manually. Is there anything I can do to treat the water to kill the algae? Particularly the string algae? I have a water lily in the pond and not much else.

You could try this thing, but I don't know where you would get it.

Other then that, you could try lowering the PH to 7 or so, apparently that helps.

Hi Agentsmith:
We got rid of a lot of string algae with PondCare Algaefix, but it's expensive.
We now have added four bundles of barley straw in bags, for a cheaper, longer term control of algae. Our pond is 4500 gal, and our bog (plant filter) is 1000 gal.
You should add many more plants: water hyacinth, water lettuce, water lilies, etc.
