I was wondering if anyone had any experience in using mangroves in the sump/fuge? A friend gave us a seed tonight, and we have put it in our sump under 40 watts of t-8 6500K bulbs lighting (half in water, half out). I've heard great things about its use as far as using up nitrates and phosphates, but wonder if anyone here has used them? I know they can get large, but I've read if you keep on trimming them the size should be easy to control

Here are some pictures. I had to add a 2nd light to the fuge just for the mangrove. Its the strip light above the stand

I keep you updated on its growth and if I see any benefits from it. I've heard rumors that if you have enough of it, it will reduce the amount of skimmate your skimmer produces and eventually eliminate the need for a skimmer, but thats something I'd have to see to believe and I'm not gonna even think about taking my skimmer off line, lol
