What a lucky lady. The scary thing is I know how much I wash my hands but it doesn't matter because I don't have a clue as to how much other people wash theirs. E[Only Registered Users Can See Links.] :help:

Always makes me think when I walk into a bar and start eating popcorn out fo the communal bowl...
oh well...germs are and always will be.

Not where I worked. No one got a communal bowl of popcorn or peanuts just for that reason. I just can't imagine some huge worm eating out your brain. Sickening.

There are germs, and then there are "other things" ..............it can't be terribly easy to transmit, though, or there would be more problems. That's poor consolation to that one who does though!

Have you ever read about the worms people can get? aughhhh It's not a pretty thought but there are more than one and you don't even know you have them. This thread makes me want to go eat a bushel of prunes and go purge my system. Drink lemon juice, vinegar, algae killer, drain-o and a couple quarts of hot sauce.

Uurghhhh watching that is going to make me go OCD for a while about washing my hands - straight out to the chemist to buy disinfectant hand wipes :14:

Yea, I would have to assume brain worm is a pretty rare condition
:hmm3grin2orange:
The doctor says "They may infect lots of people, and some of those people may come down with this condition". In other words, even if you come in contact with it, you may not suffer the same fate.
I'm not too worried. But I won't deny that that is possibly the most vile thing I have ever seen.
These parasites are more commonly spread to humans by dogs and cats than meat. Especially by puppies/kittens. Over half of puppies contract a parasite that will infect the human brain within their first year.
If you have a dog or a cat, be very careful to clean the litterbox and yard out frequently, and wear gloves and possibly a mask when you do.
Luckily, it's very hard for these parasites to invade the human body.
Unless you have AIDS, or your immune system is suppressed for any other reason, you're about 90% safe. If you're pregnant, the fetus however may be at risk.
It's recommended that pregnant women avoid changing litter boxes, and if they must, wear gloves and a mask.
The common parasites that are passed through dogs and cats require an incubation period after the feces have been expelled before they're contagous. MANY people who own dogs or cats do contract this parasite, except that the parasite is normally so weak that it's destroyed by our immune system before it gets a chance to produce even the slightest symptoms. More commonly though, these parasites are contracted by children who play in dirt and then stick their hands in their mouths, thus consuming traces of infected feces in the dirt.
Even so, consuming a large amount of feces from an infected animal doesn't really pose a high risk to a healthy adult immune system.
So don't worry too much about it... You could pick up a turd from the ground, swallow it, and odds would still be in your favour that you wont pick up these parasites... Depending on what animal left it though, you might get something else.
Luckily for pet owners though, dog and cat feces are somewhat less dangerous to consume than you might expect... More gross than dangerous. Not that it's recommended either way...

Is this the worst case scenario symptom of trichinosis? I heard it was a common thing at one time from consuming undercooked pork. From what i know it is now a rarity thankfully. Cook your pork well, and wash your hands yes, but don't be worried, this is pretty dang rare. still disturbing.

Just wondering...I did realize that undercooked pork can cause worms, but I've always assumed intestional worms. Is this the same...and just a freaky migration to the brain?

Under-cooked pork has always had this claim. Pork must always be cooked thru. Takes a certain temp to kill the bacteria in pork and if memory serves me right......160 degrees.
People with other animals are more susceptible to worms. Letting a dog kiss your face is one of them and you should wash well after changing cat liter boxes. Humans get the same worms that animals do. Tape worm, hook worm and ........? Can't remember the other one right now. Intestional worms can be emormous. Yards long.
I am very, very pickie about pork, chicken, burger and fish. I can't stand knowing those have not been cooked enough. And ofcourse everything has to go thru the smell test. :)

I'm very careful with food, as well. I did let our dogs lick my face though!! Oh well...I survived!!!
All this bleaching, washing your hands, etc, is kinda silly.
You're actually doing yourself more harm than good by using these anti-bacterial products constantly, since they also kill the good bacteria, on, and around you. This will usually cause you more health problems than the germs you're trying to kill and can weaken your immune system. You're less likely to get sick from common germs with a stronger immune system than you are a cleaner environment. Since it's easier for your body to resist bacteria than it is to kill every germ in your constant surroundings.
I haven't had a cold or flu in over 2 years, and I'm a heavy smoker. I haven't had a flu shot. All I use to clean is soap and water, and my mom's incompetent at taking care of herself, so my house is absolutely full of filth, mold, and the like that I'm not even allowed to clean up (because it's not in "my section of the house").
You really don't need to be doing all this cleaning as long as you take good care of yourself and take a few steps to make sure your defenses against germs are strong. Little things that people usually don't consider...
Cuticles are important for keeping germs out of your body. Make sure they're healthy enough to do something for you. Sweating is a natural way of preventing infections. If taken in moderation, and combined with exercise, alcohol can be helpful for killing invading bacteria before it gets a chance to establish itself in your body (weakens the cell walls so your immune system can take it out easier, it does the same to your immune system's cells though). Showering and washing your hands are very important. But if you do it too extensively you just end up damaging the skin, and the skin is your first defense against bacteria and germs, so try to keep it clean, but not to the extent of sacrificing its health.

Lotion really seems to help more. I agree though i take 2 showers a day usually, and i have trouble sleeping because my skin is dry. It doesnt help with blemishes and acne and stuff either.
I was my hands maybe 5 times a day or more and I still get sick all the time. So i dont think washing your hands all the time is really doing much, just maybe weakening your immune system some. If i didnt have tanks it would probably just be after using the br.

WT, try VitaminC supplements. I haven't been sick in years, and attribute it to daily supplements of VitC....500mg three times daily....Vit C boosts the immune system.:ssmile:

URRRRRRRH...That's horrible Lady Hobbs.
Under cooked pork is just horrid, just the thought of it turns my gut's, but i dont know about the resturants over there but the last time my wife ordered pork it came out medium rare, and when we complained they told us that that's the way it should be. Needless to say we sent it back to get cooked properly.YUK:fish2:
I got a friend who's a dietary extremist.
He's done all sorts of whacky cleanses, and has gone on all sorts of crazy diets (he once went for over 40 days consuming nothing but orange juice and a handfull of herbs that kept him from getting sick doing it, twice. He's gone on shorter fasts a few times as well).
His latest diet has been a 100% raw diet. Meat, fruits, veggies, he eats it all... But none of it is cooked.
For dinner he'll eat a pound of raw, uncooked steak with a glass of the blood.
He's been on this diet for a few months now, eating large amounts of organic uncooked meat daily.
I'm surprised he hasn't gotten sick yet, but there's still plenty of time. This is the same guy who used to eat epson salt though, so I don't think he's that worried about it.

He's looking for trouble!
He knows the warnings, but he doesn't believe them to be as serious or risky as health officials have warned.
He knows a bunch of other extreme dieters, one of which is a man who claims to have lived on a diet of 75-90% raw meat for about 50 years.
Another one on the same raw meat diet has been doing the diet with his entire family for most of their lives. Very well built guy, reports having great health and a very strong immune system.
I'd never do this myself though. BUT there are apparently people who claim to have gotten away with it their entire lives who seem to be in great physical condition without any illnesses associated with it.
But even he realizes that he's essentially a guinea pig, and advises strongly against trying it for yourself.
