Hello everyone!

Below is a picture of my 10 Gallon freshwater aquarium. I had this tank when I was a kid, and it sat for many years in my parents' basement, until I had kids of my own and decided to pull it out and set it back up. When I was younger, I had blue gravel, a few plastic plants, and a plastic octopus/diver ornament. This time I went for something a little more realistic, with natural gravel, rocks, and driftwood.

Those of you who know aquariums can probably tell that I stuck with the plastic plants for now, mostly because the lights that I have are incandescent. But I think that for a non-planted aquarium, this looks pretty good.

The Fish

This tank currently houses the following fish:
1 Sunburst Wagtail Platy
2 Tequila Sunrise Guppies
4 Pristella Tetras
3 Neon Tetras
2 Otocinclus Catfish

Let me know if you have any thoughts on my fish tank. Thanks!

Great looking tank! For the fish, I would stick to one or two species of your favorite, as most of the fish you have are schooling fish, and normally need 4-6 of each. The plants look great even if they are plastic!

Welcome to AC! I would take out of one of the schools of tetras and add another 2 otos.

looks pretty good for only 10 gallons. Your stock seems fine if those are the fish you like. Welcome to the AC!

Thanks everyone. Nice to get some encouragement. I did have, at various times since I set the tank up, another Sunset Platy, a Blue Platy, two other otocinclus catfish, 3 female guppies, and a dwarf gourami, all of which didn't last. I never had a problem with the water quality - just not very healthy fish to begin with I think, as I don't have a good fish store nearby, and have had to rely on the big chains. I never had more fish in the tank at one time than I have now, so it wasn't overstocking. But I'm pretty happy with the current stock - they all seem to get along pretty well, and have been really thriving.

I especially like the Pristella Tetras, which are very active.

I may get a couple of fluorescent lights and try a few live plants, but we'll see. I'm pretty happy with the tank the way it is now.

Thanks again. :ssmile:
