I have a school of 12 embers and I love them. They get about an inch, a little less actually and they've been fairly easy to take care of for me so far.

definitely. IMO every fish would like a planted tank. but from what i read these guys especially would like some plants.

Karbomb's got it right, they are mid to bottom dwellers.

IMO these fish are much like Dwarf Rasboras. Mine use to hide in the plants, and come out from time to time in a shoal, to dart back into cover.
Very nice fish, for any tank with small peaceful fish. As for these swimming level most fish tend to set that up for them selves. I would say depends on the planting tank theme, so around mid to bottom of the tank.
