View Full Version : Should I Move Frank

I moved Frank several months ago,(Syno Euruptus...I think) from my cichlid tank, when he developed a bacterial infection. Cured the infection and placed him in my 55gal. where he is eating most of the food given. He's gotten very fat....and I'm afraid my Cories and Clowns are not getting enough food. I'm thinking of moving him to the 29 with the Salvini pair. Will this cause problems now? Will it cause problems if and when the Salvinis breed?

Hi Sharon

You could put him in with the salvinis then take him out when they breed. The sals won't tollerate anything near the eggs or fry. If they are only small at the moment you will have a good few months before they will breed and that also depends on if you do have a pair also. :ssmile:

Thanks CF...I am wondering if I have a pair of Salvinis, as one is constantly chasing the other into hiding. Probably two males, but so far I haven't been able to get a really close look. I'll probably end up with just one Sal anyway...
I'm off to try and catch Frank...

Stack some wood or caves in one corner for him and he will remain there nearly all day and come out at night to eat. I've heard some catfish will hog so much food that they can get way over weight.

Check out this one!

Man, I think he needs some Epsom Salts.

Frank is overweight which worries me....he's not as as bad as the guy in the pic, but he's on his way. He doesn't stop eating until he can't find anymore. Sometimes he gets so bloated, he looks grotesque. I've moved him now, and made two lovely rock areas for him. But the big OAF has chosen the area where the Salvinis hang out...typical Frank style!!! The Sals are looking at him closely, and backing away, and he's totally oblivious!!! What a goof, but I do love him!!!:hmm3grin2orange:

Stan and Frank sizing each other up...Frank looks intimidated in the pic but that is not the case. The strange thing is that since Frank moved in, the Salvinis are more active...

Great pic Sharon. I am going to take a guess here and say that sal is 99% all male. Need to see a full side shot to be sure. thumbs2:

He'll be fine with those cichlids. They will do the cichlid dance with him but he will hardly be concerned with them. Sounds to me as he needs some greens in his diet to keep him cleaned out. That is, if he's just constipated.

I have two featherfins and have a stack of wood in the corner of my silver dollar tank where they stay much of the time. I have a bunch of plastic, floating bamboo in the tank and one of them lays up on the bamboo a lot. Not sure why. He just started doing that and the first time I saw him, I thought he was sick or dead but he keeps going back there now to lay.
Not sure what he gets out of laying just below the lights all day.

They are strange creatures. Frank never assumed the upside down position in the 55gal. and was active all day. He's upside down a lot in the new tank, and rests more. I'm actually a little worried at the change...He didn't eat this morning, which is VERY odd!!!

I hope he'll do well in the new tank...probably needs to establish a new territory to feel safe...

Great pic btw...

Sharon just throw a few blanched & shelled peas in. I also agree with Rue. He just has to settle. He has probably just realised he is not in his usual place. :ssmile:

I'm keeping an eye on him...he's still not eating. His belly has gone down in size. He probably doesn't need to eat actually, considering how much he has overeaten in the last days. He's not constipated, as there was a lot of poop in the bucket when I acclimated him.
