I was just wondering if the bubble trap with foam inserts that it came with was necessary for foam production with in sump use. The skimmer is in the opposite end of the sump from my return pump, and its output is close to my fuge, so I was thinking if I removed the trap, it would provide extra aeration for the rufugium and it would be one less thing to clean every week

I wouldn't think you would need it. The purpose of the in your baffles is to act as a bubble trap.

It's not needed in a sump, and mine didn't work (at least not completely) when used as a HOB.

well well well. Thats something I didn't think about too!! My skimmer is a hang on side in my sump and a big part of how I made my sump was to keep the bubbles out of the rest of it. I guess I'll try running with out it myself!

Thank you. I'm gonna remove it now. Hopefully it doesn't make anymore noise. I only put it there because the manual said to, but it doesn't do much. All the water does is runs over its sides and that just creates bubbles that anyway. Not a very good design

edit: I now have it removed and have turned it so the bubbles are directed into the fuge. It ads a little more flow in there, but not to much. Sand was starting to collect on the rubble and the bottom, so hopefully this will keep it away. I also added a filter sock to the sumps intake last week which should stop any more sand from coming in in the first place
