I had some java moss get buried a little in sand. It turned a bit brown on some parts. Does it heal itself or do I need to rip it off?

It'll get that color if it can't get enough light. I would just leave it be. Even if small bits of it rot away it should be able to anchor itself in by then.

you can pull the dead ones out gently if its already attached to something its pretty easy. The only reason why one would consider wasting the time is that the decaying matter can change ph and cause other issues of course, java moss grows so fast i would worry about the way it looks, after a few weeks of solid growing you wont even be able to see it anymore.

Thanks for the replies. So it will not come back then? It is dead and will just rot away?

K thanks. I guess I'll rip the dying part off then.
