Cypress Knee Driftwood Question?? Help please

Has anyone ever used Cypress Knees as driftwood for there aquariums?? i love the look of them.

Do they sink or do you have to slate them??

Can you use them with all types of fish??

cypress knees are fine for the fish .. problem is i belive its illegal to cut em
