I got some kuhli loaches the other day, the last of what the LFS had. One of them is yellow/gold colored. I am thinking he may be a yo yo loach instead. He is much more outgoing and doesn't hide much. All the loaches are only about maybe 2 inches long. So what I want to know is has anyone ever seen or hear of a gold kuhli loach? I can get any pics up yet, hopefuly soon though.

Thanks,

Anna

I am pretty sure I have seen kuhlii loaches with that coloration. Have you googled gold kuhlii loach?

Yeah, I googled it first but didn't find any pics. Only one of an albino.

Kuhli loaches are shaped like a 'worm' and yo yo loaches aren't so it shouldn't be too difficult to tell the two species apart.

These guys are so small. There are some differences between them. Mostly the nose of the gold one looks to be a bit longer then the others. It is also much more active and doesn't hide much. I have seen larger yo yo loaches, but never tiny one's so I wasn't sure if there would be a big difference between them at this size. It is hard to compare them because none of them really stay still.

I was looking at the loaches and the golden one's dorsel fin is about mid back, the other kuhli's are alot closer to the tail. Off the look up some more pics now.

Just realized I have been yo yo loach. I mean dojo or weather loach. I didn't realize too different loaches went by yo yo loach. The loach I meant was Misgurnus anguillicaudatus (weather loach). Around here stores have Misgurnus anguillicaudatus labled as either weather loach, yo yo loach or dojo loach. Sorry(blush)

Here is a link. It says some different types of kuhli loaches. Read [Only Registered Users Can See Links.]the capitions under the pictures.

Thanks, I did see that page before. What they have as "gold" kulhi loaches looks nothing like mine. Mine is a yellow/golden color. I am pretty sure it is a weather loach, but will have to wait to see how big it gets. The nose is a bit different, the dorsel fin is in a different place on the back and it is alway out in the open, never hiding.

It might not be a kuhli loach. Can you send us photos?

I can't do pics right now. I am in the middle of moving and don't have my computer hooked up yet, useing a relatives' right now. I'm guessing a weather loach, but still hoping it is a gold kuhli.

Being it is only about 2 inches right now makes it a little harder to tell, but it looks more like the pics of the gold weather loaches. The only pics of kuhlis that were the same color as mine had a more rounded snout. I am pretty sure it is a weather loach. I'm alittle bummed about that, now I have to try to catch him out of my planted tank. That is not going to be fun. Thanks everyone.

Catching them is quite simple. Just get a large net into one corner of the tank, and with a small net chase the Loach out and into the corner were the large net is. Just keep a eye on the large net, because they are fast.

Yeah, that was my plan. The biggest problem is that I have a lot of plants and wood with little hiddy holes. I have actully just caught my gold tetras that way, but they where the only fish NOT to swim into the net, they went around it.

Yay Loaches are a pain to catch, but with carful planning they are quite easy to catch.

The only loach(at the moment) That I am looking for is more kuhli loaches. The golden one I have I am almost positive it is a weather/dojo loach. It is alittle different from the kuhli loaches. It's snout is longer and it's dorsle fin is more in the middle of it's back opposed to being abit farther back on the kulhi's. Weather loaches are one(if not the ONE) most common loaches in my area, so it doesn't really surprize me that a small one got mixed in.
