I'm new to the hobby and hear about people adding salt to their freshwater tanks. From what I am hearing this is to prevent disease? Should I be adding salt to my tank? I am keeping danios, tetras, corys, ghost shrimp and an apisto. Will salt hurt any of these fish?
Also, how to you know when to add more salt?

there's an article on salt somewhere on here, but i think salt has more negatives than positives.

When I first started out I was told to put salt in My tanks. Then I found this Forum.

LOL Don
None of the fish you have are found in brackish water in nature so you should NOT add salt to your tank.

Your shrimp will not appreciate the salt very much.
No salt is neccesary!

And plus, salt is more of a cure for diseases and injury. I think I read constantly using a low dosage of salt is similar to using antibiotics too often, you become some what immune to its effects.
