I was just surfing the net and came across this article. Gives you some insight on tattooed fish, if you dont already know how cruel it is.

The fish are imported from Singapore. Lane believes they have to be restrained and then tattooed with a tattoo gun.

WTF, RESTRAINED THEN SHOT? ARGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh

They just go some in at my LFS and have them on sale as a Valentine's Special. I think it's disgusting. My LFS has no moral objections when it comes to cruel treatment of fish.

coming from someone who has spent a lot of time under a tattoo gun, that stuff hurts and it's cruel to think that person thinks it's a good thing. Certainly the person holding the gun has had a few tattoos himself, and knows that it is too painful to for an animal.

Also, you know how you have to sign a consent form before you get a tattoo? I think it should be the same for animals. They can't sign any consent forms, therefore they shouldn't be tattooed.

I'm with Glasstapper on this one, it is a painful process, so should be considered animal cruelty

I hate how they try to justify it by saying it will draw more people into the hobby. So a generation of kids will grow up thinking it's ok to do whatever they want to their fish? Thats great.....

I notified PETA. Expect mass retaliation in the form of lawsuits and/or firebombs.:flipa:

I think his real motive to draw more people into the hobby is to actually draw more customers into his store!!!! Remember, it is a business and people will go to any lengths to make a buck, even if it is unethical or cruel.

I know our store buys them to sell to people who don't know any better. Not just kids. People like colourful fish and nothing stands out more then a green parrot of a white molly with a pink heart on it. I just can't believe that people would think they are naturally occurring colourations.

PETA is a terrorist group and doesn't believe fish (or any animal) should be kept as pets. They are not who you want on your side. Do a little research on them, they are psychos. They would rather see animals dead than captive in peoples homes. There solution would likely be to poison the water in every fish tank in the store. They are by no means advocates of fish keeping as a hobby.

I'm well aware of the weirdos at PETA, although there are some "well-meaning" and moderate members. I've met my share of both on campus. A certain, memorable fake pig carcass strewn courtyard incident comes to mind...lol

I figured the firebomb part would have given away that I was poking fun at them and was in no way serious :P

The moderate members of peta are just the ignorant ones. They are the people who stand behind something without even knowing what it is about.

Check out this site
[Only Registered Users Can See Links.] I like the story about how they took some poor kids dog and killed it.

Here is one from the PETA website about fish.

I know you meant the comment as a joke, I just really hate those people and wish they would go away or die. I'll get off my soap box now.

WOW, I didn't realize PETA actually killed that many animals too. The world is full of ironies eh?

I was at Petsmart with a friend who bought glassfish from them a few weeks ago that later ended up having ich. After 3 weeks and 3 types of meds, including coppersafe(?? I think that's what it's called; it's by Mardell), the 2 surviving glassfish still had white spots on them. I asked the clerk if maybe these fish had been previously dyed and that the dye faded and what we were seeing was just the injection points. I was relieved to hear him say that they don't sell any dyed or tattooed fish and that their supplier was pretty reputable.

Well, just look at how Walmart treats its employees. That should give you a good idea as to how it treats its livestock. It's a good thing they don't sell any other types of animals.

I was out the other day shopping and i saw a store called Pets Plus so naturally i am drawn in to see what kind of stuff they have for fish and if they have fish. So i go inside and i see all kinds of tanks in the back. The first thing i see is a huge Dovii about 14". This guy is a monster i walk up to the glass and he is ramming it trying to get me. So then i start looking around at all the tanks and they are very well kept, clean, very healthy looking fish. But then i see something i hate - Green Oscars! Why do they have to dye them... then a little later i see "painted" albino corys. It made me soo mad. I thought the store was going to be great judging by how well kept the tanks were, but then i saw painted fish.... what a shame
