Goldfish and almost anything else are not really compatible.

Those fish are incompatible. Goldfish are cold water. If you exclude them, you'd be ok.
Yes, go with goldfish...you can have 10-12 fancies (once they're fully grown) OR go with a tropical tank...depending on the size of the fish, you can have quite a few community tropicals...or you could have 4 oscars (or more?)...
Keep in mind that with goldfish, you might need a cooling unit during the summer depending on how hot your house gets...

Not 4 oscars, 2 will live comfortably, 3 can be done possibly with good filtrarion

I done a volume calculation on the 4x2x2ft tank that is being built for me yesterday, it comes to 114US gallon, he reckons it will be finished in 2-3 weeks, can't wait

4x2x2 is the standard dimensions for the 120 (high?). I think you could do at least 4 oscars assuming you do tons of filtration and keep up with your water changes. I would do African cichlids. What filtration are you planning? I would highly recommend the Fluval FX5, it is taking care of my 150 no problem.

I am currently looking at a 1400litre per hr canister filter.
As far as stocking, it will get fish from previous over stocking of my smaller tanks, (due to early inexperience and bad LFS advice).
1 Oscar
4 Silver Dollars
2 Bala sharks
2 Clown loaches
1 Suckermouth catfish
And maybe 1 Red devil
I realise that they still might outgrow this tank, but it will buy me some more time.

I think I will not be buying a 100 Gallon unless it is a used tank. I asked my favorite local fish store how much they want for a 100 gallon. They told me they had a 120 Gallon in store right now. For the Tank, Hood and light $425.00
They showed me a 75 gallon tank and for the tank, hood and light they wanted $300.00.
This does not include Gravel, 2 Filters, a heater and any fish and plants I want.

Does it include a stand? My LFS charges 300 for a 75 gallon + lights + hood + stand.

They did not say and I did not think to ask. Will ask next time.

Usually, for a cheapie package deal, the stand is the most expensive component, since they tend to throw whatever on for the lighting. The 75 gallon tank + hood + lights is 100 here, and the stand by itself is 200. It's not even a nice looking one I don't think.
