I have only had this guy for 2 days and i really like him already. i got him at a petsmart 1 and 1/2 away from my house, i was already nervous if that would be too long of a trip for him when he decided to poke 3 little holes in the side of the bag with his dorsal fins :help: so he let all the oxygen the girl put in there out and some of the water too but hes doing great now!

time for my main question, im afraid that my substrate is too light to show off his true colors, does it even matter? ive seen a few pictures of really beautiful dark JD's with light substrate. also what is the common length that they start to transform into a beauty? mine is about 4-5 inches now :19: really nice, perky fish!

I would give it a couple more days to let him get comfortable in its new home.
What size tank and is it cycled?
What else is in the tank?
Got any pics?

Totally different fish from yesterday, he seems much more comfortable.

JD's vary in color from batch to batch. I've seen some really really dark ones that are almost completely black with just a hint of blue in them and I've seen some pale ones that are just grayish brown. The substrate won't determine how vibrant they look nearly as much as their genes and health.
