I went out and bought a twenty gallon tank today to house my male bettas in. I wanted to cut my tanks down and combine them so I went to Lowes and had them cut me plexi-glass to make dividers out of.
Question, what should I clean the plexi-glass with and what should I use to seal them into the tank? Thanks!

Just clean with water but I would try to use airline suction cups to hold the dividers in place. You may later want them taken out.

If the tank is clean and dry they can be siliconed is but if you ever want to remove it there will always be a mark in the glass where the silicone was.
Get some aquarium silicone and do not do a full seam just spots.
How are you going to filter this?

Where can I get the suction cups at? I've never heard of these.
I am really hoping that the substrate helps hold the dividers into place. I have another week or so before I can finish up buying the things I need to complete the tank. I expect a quick cycle since I already have two cycled tanks running. I'm going to be using sand in this tank, maybe two plants per section.
I also need to figure out some way to hide the fish from one another. Would it be possible to paint the plexi-glass or should I use a background and just cut it and tape it onto the dividers?

I'm not really sure about filtration yet. I thought about seeing if I could drill some holes in the glass so water could flow through. This was a quick buy so I honestly havn't thought it through just yet. I have all four of my males in their own tanks so it's nothing I have to rush to do, but I would like to stream-line my "collection" a bit and just have one tank divided.

For the dividers, why not try moss walls for them? Would look really cool, I think. And as you said, there is no rush to get it set up. Just a thought.
Cheers!

I was going to suggest cutting a bunch of holes to allow the water to flow through and use the main tank filter to filter these too but you already thought of it. I think it would work great. I also would try suction cups to hold it on. Means using a little more plexi glass (to create a front which you wouldnt need if you were to silicone it to the tank) but I think it would be easier and can be removed.

i'm sure we've all seen the plastic mesh used in crafts and for moss walls, that stuff would be great for dividers... and the suction cupps are a simple way to hold them would take 8 per divider 2 on top 2 on bottom each side of the plastic just to block it like this
